Should I bin the hairdresser and dye my own hair?

Been having hair coloured professionally for years. Blonde highlights and then lately full head blonde super-lightener with funky toners on top.

Unfortunately all the bleach took its toll and agreed a couple of months ago with hairdresser to give it a rest and dye it dark instead.

So now have a short inverted Bob in a dark cherry red brown colour.

Am happy to stay this colour for a long while and no desire to go back to blonde.

Question is: can I save myself hundreds of pounds a year and just colour it myself now??

As far as I can see, the hairdresser is now just painting on one solid colour of dye and charging me £60 for the privilege. I can buy a similar colour from Boots for under a tenner and do my roots myself when they come through, right?

Facts: my natural colour used to be moist ashy blonde but I am pretty sure it’s now 100% grey, in case this makes a difference...

yeah I would, or find an at home hairdresser who will do it cheaper.

I do. I’m a dyed blonde from very dark brown/grey and last September starting going to hairdresser due to green tinge but it was never as nice as me doing it myself at home so this April I went back to shop boxes. I stick to just roots now though.

Do it yourself but buy a professional dye and developer. Do you know what it is she uses?

I colour my own now, probably just a shade darker than yours. I get the dye on Amazon, it's about £6 a box. It looks no different than having a hairdresser do it when it's one colour.

Yes I did. Dye it myself now and everyone says how fab it looks. Stick with same colour though don't chop and change as that's where it can go wrong.

Some colourants are multi-tonal and quite nice, been using for years.

Do it yourself but use the professional salon products, you can get them online. Your hair looks lovely by the way Smile

In my experience the only time one needs to pay a hair dresser is if you what a really bright red/pink/blue etc.

If you want one colour in a mainstream shade then dying it yourself is just as good. Home hair dyes are really good these days

I've never had mine dyed at a hairdressers always done it myself. Apart from when I've tried to go lighter I've never had a disaster.
If you're going to do a box dye and haven't done it before, bare in mind that they tend to come out darker than on the box so choose a shade lighter.
