Plumber charge question

This might be entirely reasonable....
Plumber called out to fix dripping shower. He replaced internal part. Still dripped. Returned and decided it was another part - an expensive part - so it would be more cost effective to replace the whole shower.

Just received invoice - charged for 2 visits and part.....yet he has fixed nothing as shower still dripping.
Is this entirely standard? We feel a bit miffed to be honest!
We haven't yet arranged visit to replace shower.

Yes, that's the norm. Plumbing isn't an exact science, and it's not unusual to have to try several parts before you get a fix.

Is it an old shower? If not and the plumber thinks it is an inherent fault, you should speak to the retailer.

Yes, thats standard. He will have tried the cheaper option first but as thast didn;t work continued to fault find and concluded you need the more expensive part/replacement shower.
