Tax Credits

Apologies in advance if I have posted in the wrong group.

I have a question regarding child tax credits. My DS left school this year and is remaining in sixth form so is attending approved education. I informed tax credits, they have done our renewal and our money has gone down by approx £50 a week. Has anyone had experience with this? I thought the money would remain the same or go down a little not by that high amount.
We don't get working tax credit btw just child.

Appreciate any help :)

If your income hasn’t changed I’d ring them and make sure he is still on your claim just in case

Nat6999 · 26/07/2019 04:27

It sounds like they haven't put him back on the claim, they shouldn't have taken him off until the end of August either, give them a ring & find out what they are playing at.

Apologies. I wrote that wrong. It goes down by £50 from the 1st September. I've re read the paperwork as it says from 1st September we only receive child element for 2 children. Our income hasn't changed, I expected it a fluctuate a bit but not by that much weekly x

Are they mistakenly counting it as a change of circumstances bringing you under the '2 children only' rules?

Tisahardlife · 26/07/2019 07:56

I'm in the same situation and I phoned to ask what i should do and was told once their GCSE results are in and an unconditional offer is in place for 6th form to let TCs know that he is staying on in full time education.

cazparsons · 26/07/2019 08:03

Ah okay, Tish. I wonder if that's what I need to do then. Wonder how long we'll be waiting for them to process it all seeing as everyone will be putting the information on the same day x

They do take them off automatically and you have to add them back on. I did this online (do you have a government gateway account?), I didn't have to wait for GCSE results (as she would be doing retakes if she failed maybe?).

cazparsons · 26/07/2019 08:14

That's the thing, I have done that via the online gateway account already. I don't know if the renewal has been processed before the change of circumstances has. I went back on and re entered it all in case there was a cross over somewhere.

It's all so confusing lol
