What was your first holiday without your parents?

The first one when I was 11 on PGL

The proper hoilday was Greece when I was 18

Apart from Pony Club camps, it was the Isle of Man TT Races week. I think there were about ten of us. Brilliant fun.

I went to Flamingo Land in a caravan for a week when I was 17 with my friends.

At 18 I went to Greece to stay with my boyfriend at the time as his family lived there.

Excluding school trips I went to Newquay at 18 and stayed in the 18-30 campsite with my friends.

We went to Argeles Sur Mer for 3 weeks after a' levels. We hadn't budgeted nearly enough cash and lived off bread, Nutella and wine. And did flirting for drinks, and food, and hitch hiking. And strip poker with a load of lads from Leeds. I lost nearly a stone in weight and had the best sun tan I have ever had. It was marvelous. Now I have my own teenager I am very afraid!

Then tunisia when i was 21

I travelled around Spain and Portugal on a moped at 16 with a Spanish boyfriend, camping. Amazing memories of Grenada and the Alps and waking up in a flooded tent after a thunderstorm in the middle of an olive grove. Both countries are so beautiful. As was the boyfriend.

@Ragwort I'm 34; went back a few years ago and it was just the same so it's clearly had its magic formula worked out for a long time!

Quite a few school trips and guide camps, don't know if they count. Flew by myself to Germany at 11, but was visiting my aunt and uncle so not really independent travel!

I went to live in the Guides' World Centre in Switzerland for 3 months on my gap year, so I was 18, it was voluntary work rather than a proper holiday though. First actual holiday would be with my first boyfriend, SC in the Lake District aged 21!

Trewern - year 4
No adults - 17 (just) to Kos and then Zante a couple of weeks later. Club 18-30 type holidays.

Not counting school trips, it was to Gran Canaria with my boyfriend and I was 17.

I can still remember the name of the high rise apartments- Europalace. Classy

Excluding school trips, camping in Dorset with a female friend - we were 17. Had a great time.

Auschwitz with school aged 15.

Went to Corfu with best friend aged 17, halfway through our holiday we took a ferry to Italy and a train up to Rome to see two Italian boys our age who we’d met in the UK earlier in the Summer. We went up into the mountains to stay at one of their families ski chalet (except it was summer). Got up to the kind of activities 2 summer tanned girls with their two gorgeous Italian boyfriends would. Then went back to Corfu to take our flight home!

13, my parents offered to send me on a school skiing trip to Maine.Long way to go for the first time!I was quite quiet and a bit clingy, but ended up making a whole new group of friends and actually loved skiing (was v chubby, not sporty).No idea how I got on that plane looking back but was one the most fantastic experiences of my life.
