How on earth are people whose jobs require being outside coping with this weather?

I was just thinking about my postman and how awful it must be having to do the round in this heat.

Same goes for binmen.

And lots of others. Some people who work outside might be able to choose their hours and work overnight or at dawn/dusk, but how do people who HAVE to be outside in the mid morning and midday heat cope?

It’s nicer outside than in here

Our building is a huge industrial building and it’s boiling inside. The workshop guys have all decamped outside as it’s a lot cooler.

It’s not too bad here today, it’s quite breezy and it’s clouded over a bit this afternoon

Oxford City Council posted on social media that all bin collections were being done super early because of the heat. We've just had bin lorries down our road, 4 of them so obviously working in tandem to get the job done ASAP.

@DecomposingComposers - I've just been out and handed out all the cold cans of drink I had in my fridge. I completely agree with you, and hopefully more people will offer. My DH is in an air conditioned room today but it could so easily have been him working outside in the heat. I hope if that was the case, someone would offer him a cold drink!

It's chefs and bakers I feel sorry for, sweltering in boiling kitchens with ovens and hobs on, and no air con.

I have 3 workmen outside who are knocking off render right back to the original stone and I feel soooo sorry for them, not only is it hot but they're using big drills too which I assume warm their hands up and throw off hot dust

DP is in construction, and has staged a rebellion as usually shorts aren't allowed (logical if using scary equipment, but when refitting student accomodation, and he's a supervisor, less so), but went in them yesterday. Senior Bod said that they weren't allowed, so DP said he'd borrow one of my skirts for today if that was the case. Senior Bod appeared at lunchtime in new shorts.

The guys fitting the flooring had to give up at 12 yesterday as the glue wouldn't set!

They are closing the site early, but the trains appear to be totally screwed, so god knows when he will be back. I have an ice cream waiting for him though coz I'm nice like that (I abandoned the office at lunchtime).
