We are going for our first child free weekend in Birmingham since our little one was born! We are going next weekend- can I have restaurant recommendations please?

Thanks

What is your budget? If you can afford it, go to Simpson's in Edgbaston. One of the best meals I've ever had.

@YouWhoNeverArrived many thanks for the suggestion! Sorry should have said my budget, is roughly £45 PP

Is there a particular type you prefer?

If you're looking for something unusual Jojolapa in the Jewelry quarter is a good Nepalese.

Damascena on Temple Row is a Syrian but perhaps better for lunch than dinner.

If you want Japanese try Mount Fuji near the bull ring.

There are tons of good curry resturants, a very good Italian in Moseley, a whole Chinese quarter where all but the Big Wok are worth a try (good Vietmanese down there too). Rodzico Rico is a good Brazilian but only if you like meat.

There's a branch of The Ivy in the City Centre but that may be a bit over budget.

Tell us a bit more about your tastes and we'll narrow it down a bit :)

Ooh, if you're after Japanese food, I second the recommendation for Mt Fuji - I love it! I wouldn't recommend Gaijin, despite the glowing Guardian review.

If you like Italian food - Pasta Di Piazza on St Paul's square is amazing. If you do go there there are also several decent bars you could pop into pre or post dinner in St Paul's Square. Have a great night GinWine

Thanks everyone! Ours tastes are Italian, Mexican, American, Chinese or Indian! We are staying near bullring, so some where with in walking distance ideally? What good bars are there too?

We would ideally would like to go a independent restaurant rather than a big chain!

There's lots of great options, we usually go to the Japanese restaurant but I forget the name and street

golddustwomen · 25/07/2019 15:56

I love Akbar's on the Hagley Road, not walking distance from bullring but such a nice curry and lovely place!

Dustyzest · 25/07/2019 15:58

Chung Yings on Thorp St does the best crispy squid and duck and pancakes that you’ll ever have!

ReginaGeorgeous · 25/07/2019 18:37

Would second the previous recommendation of Chung Ying for Chinese food. Cucina Rustica in St Paul's Square is a lovely Italian.

Bars that I'd recommend that are walking distance from the Bullring are Utopia, The Alchemist, The Botanist, The Old Joint Stock and The Lost and Found.

Have a great night!

I wouldn’t recommend this as a nice meal out but there is (used to be anyway?) a great Spanish tapas place and a pho place in Birmingham New Street. If you are traveling by train, it makes a nice little lunch before you head home.

lily8518 · 27/07/2019 19:25

Hubby decided he wants a Indian, so any suggestions for good Indians within a walking distance of bull ring??

Thanks

Asha's on Newhall Street.

Happyelfjokeday · 28/07/2019 08:15

Yeah Asha’s is lovely. Or there’s Lasan in the Jewellery Quarter if you want a ‘fancy’ Indian. Itihaas also lovely and not much further than Asha’s

Pleaser256 · 28/07/2019 08:21

Lasan’s is lovely but I think from memory it’s really busy and you have to book months in advance?
Akbar’s is really nice but you’d need to cab it there. I would also pre-book there, although not sure if you’ll get in next weekend

ShootTheRunner · 28/07/2019 08:31

I like to have a drink in Brindley Place next to the canal when I go. Pitcher and Piano is nice (downstairs bar). I love a weekend in Birmingham!
