Is this a phase all small children go through? Because if it is I can cope....

My son is nearly three. He saw a pair of trainers he liked and said yes when I asked him to try them. Took his shoe off he refused to try it on. I go to put them back and he says he does. Try it again, pulls foot away; put them back.... repeat.

I ask him to choose a new plate - plastic ones in Sainsbury’s - and he picks one. So I get it. He doesn’t want it. I put it back: he wants it....

New toothbrush - got the Lightning McQueen one but then he proceeded to shout and scream crocodile. Went to swap it and got the fucking crocodile for him to then scream lightning for ten minutes.

He is driving me insane at the moment. I don’t give in and usually just say no resulting in tears and snot and tantrums. But he doesn’t change his behaviour!! It’s like he just changes whatever it is so he can continue bawling at me!

I won’t mention he also refused to put his own shoe back on so I said he had to go in the trolley. The little git then yanked my hair so was sat in the main part of the trolley with one shoe on and still refused to put the other one back on. I was a
Woman on the fucking edge this morning....

He’s generally a really good kid but there are parts of his personality im seeing that I really dislike quite strongly and I don’t know where it’s coming from. He’s good as gold at his childminders - it’s like he does it just for me!

@Fruityb I could have written your post myself! My DS is 3 in a few months. I am also a teacher and do all pick ups and drop offs. DH is out of the house from 8am until after 7pm so I’m flying solo all day with him. He also follows a hobby every other Saturday so I get the cherub all day on my own then to. I also have a 4 month old to add to the mix.

My DS hates having his hair cut. Screams the place down and turns into a snotty mess. I dread taking him as it’s a physical challenge for me holding hind down!

We are currently going through a phase of him screaming at the top of his lungs if he wants something and can’t have it. He looks at me and screams with such anger in his face. He also whinges and whines all day long, refuses to put on shoes or clothes and getting out of the house with him can take an age.

I’ve got 5 weeks of summer left to go with him...:: I’m counting down till he returns to the childminders where he is good as good!

So it’s 9 o clock - we have been out all day. He is utterly shattered. The other two kids we are away with are asleep and what is my son doing? Screaming and shouting to come downstairs. He says “I get up” I say no so he just does it anyway. This has happened all day - he will not listen to me at all.

He threw a massive wobbler where we were today as he refused to put his shoes back on so we wouldn’t let him walk.

Up at 7am and the instant he woke up he was screaming and shouting for the other two kids WHO WERE STILL IN FUCKING BED!!

I am calm and patient and talk to him and let him ride it out but he just won’t pissing stop at the moment and when we’ve got two other kids who are needing sleep as well it’s my little arsehole that’s causing the ruckus.

I have wine on standby.... the little terrorist will eventually stop and then all I want to do is go to bed.

Discovered today that this situation has been exacerbated by him being told he would be sharing a room with the other two - who are seven and two and brother and sister; it would not work as he doesn’t sleep through and ds is being a shit at bedtime now anyway. Consequently he just wants to go up there.

I do want to point out I adore my son and he’s usually awesome. I cannot wait for this period to be over - it’s torturous. He’s either tantrumming, ignoring everything I say and wailing at a pitch that makes my fillings itch. I’m using this as a sound board and for some moral support!! He’s exhausting me right now.

Oh you poor thing. This is though when you have to stay strong on your essential boundaries (like, you are staying in or at least near you bed until you go to sleep, scream and shout all you like). Otherwise the wee buggers remember there’s a chink in your armour next time.

He’ll get there. Just maybe not tonight.
