Have you turned the oven on?

Wombleish · 23/07/2019 18:30

Microwave them first to cook then oven to crisp up. It's much faster!

Microwave for 8 mins first, turning it over half way through, then stick it in the oven for 40min on a medium-high heat. With oil and salt on the outside. Should be nice and done by then.

Fatted · 23/07/2019 18:36

Halogen oven. Cooks everything quickly and nice and crisp like a proper oven instead of soggy like a microwave.

AwdBovril · 23/07/2019 18:37

Stick a metal skewer through the middle. Reduces the time by quite a bit.

Ninkaninus · 23/07/2019 18:40

Your oven isn’t hot enough. What temp is it at?

Next microwave first and then bake to crispen. I like to stab them all over with a fork,, douse in olive oil and sprinkle liberally with salt and pepper.

Ninkaninus · 23/07/2019 18:41

*Next time

Skewer trick works well too.

FamilyOfAliens · 23/07/2019 18:44

Is “crispen” a word?

FamilyOfAliens · 23/07/2019 18:45

Ok, just googled it and it is.

Just sounds weird to me.

Ninkaninus · 23/07/2019 18:45

Yes, it is.

WellErrr · 23/07/2019 18:46

Just microwave them, they’re much nicer!

MashedSpud · 23/07/2019 18:48

You deserve a medal for putting the oven on in this heat.

RezCowgirl · 23/07/2019 18:48

Metal skewer and coat thehigher skin with oil

Chocolatedaim · 23/07/2019 18:49

Oven mustn’t be hot enough!
I did jacket spuds this evening for Dd, put them in at 4pm, went to park, came back and she was eating them at 5.15.
We don’t have a microwave.
I just make a cross in the top with sharp knife and put them on top shelf for 60mins at 200•

Ninkaninus · 23/07/2019 18:49

Let’s talk jacket potato toppings!

Chilli and cheese

Chicken Caesar salad

Tuna mayo and lettuce

Hmmm what else??

CottonSock · 23/07/2019 18:51

I've discovered frozen ones. Don't want oven on in this heat, plus mine is bloody loud and annoying

KenAdams · 23/07/2019 18:54

Hours?! They take 1 hour on 180 if you've got an OTT oven like mine and 200 if you have a normal oven.

FamilyOfAliens · 23/07/2019 18:55

You deserve a medal for putting the oven on in this heat.

I’ve just baked a banana cake Grin

Bezalelle · 23/07/2019 18:58

Microwave all the way. Ain't nobody got time for 40+ mins cooking.

DullPortraits · 23/07/2019 19:01

We put oven 230 and don't mic first - take just over an hour ( give them a prick with a fork. Also if you rub oil on them it right crisps the skin up. Obviously the bigger the potato the longer they take though

WaitrosePigeon · 23/07/2019 20:32

I had it on 180 but I guess that’s not long enough... thanks all for the tips

OP posts:
WaitrosePigeon · 23/07/2019 20:32

High enough even
