Washing second hand toys

Hi everyone!
We've been very lucky and have been gifted lots of second hand baby toys. It was through a friend.
My question is, can I put the cuddly toys in the washing machine? They all say sponge clean/surface clean only. But I want to clean them more thoroughly than that as some do look well used.
Can anyone help? Wondering whether to throw in a 30degree wash and just see what happens!

Tie them in a pillowcase, I've washed them like that and they come out fine.
Look a bit silly pegged to the line by their ears though Grin

Thank you contactlight! Lol my washing line is certainly going to look a bit unusual! There's quite a few! Did you wash at 30degrees or hotter?

Put everything in a pillow case or one of those mesh bags and wash at 30

Or you could plonk everything in the bath/kitchen sink with a couple of milton tablets if you are worried they'll get destroyed in the washing machine. That's how we washed toys when I worked in a nursery.

I wouldn’t bother. Extra germs are good for their immune system...

Bung them in at 40C they'll be fine.
I always used to wash the class bear when it came to our house.

BillywilliamV · 23/07/2019 19:12

Stick him thru at 40, they’ll either survive or they won’t.

@Camomila wouldn't Milton fade cuddly toys? I thought it bleached?!

OP, we were given lots of secondhand cuddly toys and I washed all of them at 30 degrees in the washing machine. All of them survived!

I've washed loads of teddies in washing machine - usually just on 30. I work in a nursery too and all the teddies are washed in the machine every term :)

Camomila · 23/07/2019 19:22

It probably depends on the quantities. One milton tablet to a lot of water, quick swish about and then rinse should be fine.

ruralcat · 23/07/2019 19:23

I'v washed plenty of soft toys at 30. If their no longer fluffy give them a bit of a blow dry and they come up like new

anypossibleway · 23/07/2019 19:24

I wash all cuddly toys at 40 in the washing machine. Not lost anything yet! Plastic toys go in the dishwasher

jma43 · 23/07/2019 19:49

Sadly no dishwasher so I'll be shoving the plastic toys in the sink with sterilizing stuff! Thank you everyone! I'm going to put a wash load on and make use of this heatwave to get them dry!

40deg wash with the dettol laundry detergent. That should do the trick.
