In house Airbnb-ing

Does anyone do it? Rent their spare room and remain in the house? Or have you rented a room in someone else's?

I have rented my whole place loads in the past and stayed at parents, friends etc but it's a hassle and I now have a spare room again. It would only be for the next month.

I noticed a recent thread and the host had a lot of stringent rules (fair enough, it's their house!) but do you introduce yourself and make yourself scarce or do you chat with them a bit? I guess I know it's up to them but just looking for anyone's personal experiences/tips.

I think if you are renting just the room in a whole house I would definitely introduce myself. You are living together in her whole home and if it was me, I would like to get to know the person I am sharing it with.

Oh yes definitely, I'd introduce myself. Just wondering if those who host just go about their business as usual, or do they find themselves being out of the house more/out the way when they have guests in.

We’ve stayed in the main house with the owner in the annex. He introduced himself and then kept well away but it’s different because we obviously had separate facilities. I would expect you to carry on as usual if I were booking the room.
