Ear Piercing and swimming (DD 11)

So DD would like to get her ears pierced, she's 11 and starts secondary in sept so I thought it would be best to do it at the beginning of the holidays.
However,we are going on holiday to Devon next week and if the weather's good we'll be going in the sea.

I can't find a definite answer online about swimming, some say it's safe after 24 hours and some say wait til it's healed (8-12 weeks).

We will be going to a piercing/tattoo studio not Claire's in case it matters Smile

I would say it is somewhere in between from my experience. When DD had hers done I wouldn't have taken her swimming in the first couple of weeks - but after that I don't see what not as long as you are still looking after them properly to encourage good healing

We had this problem last year. DD had hers done at the beginning of the school holidays and we went on holiday 2 weeks later.

We just cleaned them thoroughly after swimming (plus the 3 times a day normal cleaning) and had no problems.

This is not from any expertise or anything so may well be crap but, when I had my ears pierced, I was advised to bathe them in salt water. So you'd hope being in the sea wouldn't be too bad as long as you continue all the recommended aftercare.

I do appreciate the sea isn't exactly sterile or anything Smile

Have a lovely holiday.
