DS2 is mooching already. DS1 is away all summer doing exciting things. DS2 is in pyjamas, not seeing daylight, upset all his friends are away. He insisted on organising nothing at all all summer so he could work on his uni applications, and one week in he's stir crazy.
Had out main holiday already this year, but I was wondering about surprising him with three nights in Marrakech. Found a gorgeous, cheap riad in late August about 1/2 mile from the centre.

Will it just be baking hot and non-stop hassle?
Can you avoid being hustled and ripped off at every moment? I hear such conflicting reports. I know he'd like to go there but also know he'd hate being pestered. Can we avoid this?

Where else is good value t this time of year that might interest a teenage boy? He loves cities.

We loved marrakesh! We went as a young family. They will hassle you a but but a firm no and keep walking and they stop. We absolutely loved it. It's cheap and fun. Roof top terraces and the fresh orange juice and getting lost in the market was just amazing. Honestly go if you can. Not sure about the weather as we went may time and it was very hot but we like it hot so it didn't matter to us.

I went mid July. I have a picture showing the temp as 50° and yet it was bearable somehow. There was a bit of hassle but you just hold your hand up and say "no". It's an amazing place for sure. Do an excursion to the High Atlas.

Tip: if you get lost in the souks, look up for numbered signs leading you back to the main square (which is incredible at night!). Also look for rooftop cafes (not bars - you can't drink within the Medina walls) for fabulous views.

Marrakesh is great. It would be a good place for a few nights. The hassle isn't that bad, just say no and they will leave you alone.

Yes we went in November with a toddler and loved it. I was also worried about hassle but we didn't get bothered much at all. It's gorgeous, food is amazing, second the fresh orange juice- so cheap!
