DD's feet won't grow!

hidinginthenightgarden · 22/07/2019 20:39

DD is 4 soon and we got her feet measured today.
They were measured in September as infant sized 5.5. Today one foot was between 5.5/6 and the other 5.5! They aren't growing!!
at aged 1 she was a 2.5. In over 2.5 years she has only gone up to a 5.5.
Is this unusual? DS has huge feet but not sure if thats a boy thing?

My 15 month old daughter has bigger feet than your 4 year old!

I have no idea what is normal and what is not, but if she's proportionate I would guess that is okay? How tall is she?

Butterymuffin · 22/07/2019 20:41

DS's didn't grow for a year once. They do eventually. There's nothing you can do in the meantime!

hidinginthenightgarden · 22/07/2019 20:43

She is the normal height and weight for her age. I can't buy her tights because her feet are so small that those for her age end up with the heel halfway up her leg! If we go by foot size then they aren't long enough.

Be happy ur saving on shoes!!

ohfourfoxache · 22/07/2019 20:44

Ds1 is the same - wears out shoes before he grows out of them

He’s got flat feet and I sometimes wonder if that’s got something to do with it

MoltenMountain · 22/07/2019 20:44

DD's feet didn't grow for a year, I got worried when her winter boots from the previous winter still fitted her! But since January, she has gone up 2 sizes.

ElstreeViaduct · 22/07/2019 20:44

I wouldn't panic but I think it is worth running by a HV. They do seem to grow in spurts but that is a long time between spurts in a 3 year old.

Is she growing in height? Has she chubbed up like they do before a growth spurt?

Pipandmum · 22/07/2019 20:45

My sins girlfriend is 5’4” and her shoe size is ...3! Diddy shoes!

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 22/07/2019 20:46

DD’s feet have also always grown really slowly. Usually only 1 size a year. So was a size 10 all of year 3, went into an 11 at the start of year 4.
But then from May half term her feet haven’t stopped growing! She’s gone 11/12/13 and then today had to buy more shoes in a size 1.
Her feet have grown more in the past 2 months than in the previous 3 years.

hidinginthenightgarden · 22/07/2019 20:47

Molten, DD has a pair of boots that were purchased xmas 2017. They were bought a full size aove what she was I think and still fit!

She is growing in height. Recently had a growth spurt in height but not feet.

Ds has had the same school shoes for two years. He's 12yo.

My middle dd feet always seemed to be growing. She was size 13 in reception and us now a 7.
DD1 (as I was) was a size 13 in year 7, and had several years her feet didn't grow. I think she had the same shoes throughout infants.

SinkGirl · 22/07/2019 20:48

My twins are almost 3 - they were wearing the same size 6s for nearly a year, only just gone up a size this week and the new ones are a bit big. It’s definitely worth mentioning to your GP, they may want to keep an eye on it. Is she growing generally in line with her curves on the charts?

Pinkkahori · 22/07/2019 20:49

My dds have slow growing feet. The 10 years old wears a 13 and has done for over a year. My 13 years old is wearing a 3 but i think 2 1/2 is her real size.
Some people just have small feet.

Waiting1987 · 22/07/2019 20:49

My 18 month old is a 5.5 and 4 year old is a 9. Definitely worth speaking to a HCP, but hopefully nothing to worry about.

georgialondon · 22/07/2019 20:50

Wow my almost 2 yr old is size 7.5. Seems like she has enormous feet then! Grin

hidinginthenightgarden · 22/07/2019 20:51

Sinkgirl - her height and weight haven't been plotted on a chart for over a year. People often comment that she is tall for her age though. She often falls over and I wonder if it is because her feet are too small for her body.

hidinginthenightgarden · 22/07/2019 20:52

No Georgia - probably normal. My 6 yr old was measured junior size 1 today so I am always surprised hers are so small!

Does she have narrow feet? My ds had narrow feet and his feet took ages to grow, he normally got at least a year out of shoes.

taylorowmu · 22/07/2019 20:53

When DD was 6/7 she was in the same size for 18 months!

Justajot · 22/07/2019 20:57

I think it's normal. I found all of the comments about having to buy new shoes all the time quite baffling when my DDs were little. Their feet grew slowly and they didn't need many different ones, so it wasn't particularly expensive.

Obviously that changes when they start needing a wider variety of shoes, but still, they don't change size that often.

I've also found that their feet can be measured in different shops on the same day with quite different results, so I'd get them measured again to check.

hidinginthenightgarden · 22/07/2019 21:01

No iggy they are wide with a high instep too. She is very hard to sort shoes for.

OP posts:
ElstreeViaduct · 22/07/2019 21:20

My DD's were similarly shaped, not wide left to right but very rigid with a high instep. She needed wide fitting shoes to accommodate the arch. My DH is the same - I think he should be a size 6 but he sizes up to get the width.

Anyway DD's first shoes were 2.5, her school shoes always lasted 3 or 4 terms and were often replaced when the velcro went, rather than outgrown, and I think they are stopping growing now at an adult 2.5/3. However I think that her first school shoes were around an 8. It is probably fine but I would ask the HV.

Btw Russell and Bromley recommended certain pairs of Startrite, that were deep and boxy. Allegedly they were made on a traditional/old fashioned last, or something.

Thenameisweasley · 22/07/2019 21:24

My DD's first set of shoes where a 4 at 12 months - she's now 26 months and only just started wearing a size 5! I am replacing shoes because they are worn out also not because they don't fit!!

hidinginthenightgarden · 22/07/2019 21:25

Thanks viaduct. Unfortunately the R&B here has just closed the kids section. Sketchers seem to fit her well though so I go there.

Wiesley- your 2 yr old has almost same size feet as my almost four year old!
