Currently getting divorced after 25 years. Took his name against my better judgement at the time! Should I go back to my maiden name now??

I changed mine by deed poll the week I left my DH.

Or if you want a new name (new start!) I know someone who took a name from their family tree that had died out.

I changed mine by deed poll. Felt really good after for me. DC are still in his name.

BikeRunSki · 22/07/2019 14:51

I would! I only changed after 8 years of marriage, when I was expecting DS. Still happily married, but I keep toying with going back.

BuffaloCauliflower · 22/07/2019 14:52

If you divorce you can just start using your maiden name again, no need for deedpoll

ShadyMeLady · 22/07/2019 15:12

I changed mine after divorce, back to maiden name. No deedpoll needed, it was all really simple.

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/07/2019 15:18

I know two women who have chosen completely different new surnames!

I changed my name by deed poll as I didn't want to wait the time it would take for the divorce

earlydoors42 · 22/07/2019 18:34

I changed back mine. I have since got married to someone else but kept my maiden name. My solicitor said I can just use my maiden name without deed poll as it is my name :-) It did help that I had not gone abroad so hadn't changed my passport

Brahumbug · 23/07/2019 06:53

You can use any name you want. Deed polls are rather meaningless.

GirlFliesHome · 23/07/2019 07:06

You just use the name you want. You will still have your birth certificate and marriage certificate that shows your maiden name if you want to change passports / drivers licences and things. No need for deed polls etc.

I 'half' changed my name upon marriage- in that I simply could not be arsed to change any of the docs. I use my maiden name and married name according to whim. I even have bank accounts in both names! Never an issue.

I would love to but I want the same name as my kids so I guess I’m stuck with it. I might change it when they are adults!

ZillaPilla · 23/07/2019 08:02

I've gone back to my much better maiden name. Just started using it and changed it on accounts/bills etc when I could.

Easy.
