Scam, account hacked or simple mistake?

So, I just received a package from amazon.de (Germany). It contains a foam roller, and this letter.

From my very limited German, it seems to be saying they couldn't complete my return of it, due to it either not being from them, or that it doesn't match the account name/order address.
I've never bout anything directly from Amazon in Germany, nor attempted to make a return.
My account/order history has nothing about this.
Scam, or have they somehow confused this return with another one.
I'll attempt to contact the German Amazon. No order number in the letter, but the label on the outside has some numbers for reference.
Anyone had similar?

Probably a scam. Ignore it.

NoBaggyPants · 22/07/2019 10:57

That's intriguing. The first thing that struck me is I've never seen amazon.de referred to as Amazon Germany in formal terms, all the references on the site are to amazon.de.

Does the address label look like an Amazon label?

ChicCroissant · 22/07/2019 11:03

Contact Amazon UK but I wouldn't contact or click on anything on that letter, it doesn't look right at all.

SweetBabyJebus · 22/07/2019 11:05

You're right, it's essentially saying sorry, but we couldn't refund you account, so we're sending it back. However, the German is not great grammar wise, so my guess is it may be a phishing scam. I would just ignore, but if you wanted to contact Amazon.de, do so through official address.

OtraCosaMariposa · 22/07/2019 11:05

You can't click on a paper letter, daftie!

Might be worth contacting Amazon UK.

Plexie · 22/07/2019 11:05

Yes, that's a point - why would they use the English word 'Germany' in their letter heading? The letter is written in German so it's not as if they tailored it to write to an English-speaking customer in the UK.

ChicCroissant · 22/07/2019 11:06

No, but there's a link it!

stupidis · 22/07/2019 11:06

It could be 'brushing', if you get more of the same, they are setting up fake accounts to post fake reviews on.

StillRunningWithScissors · 22/07/2019 11:41

Yes, was going to contact them via my Amazon account. VERY good point about referring on the letter as Amazon Germany. Well spotted.

The label is DHL, so pointing to phishing, I agree.

Will lock down my account with additional authentication, just as a good reminder to be careful

Thanks everyone.
