NI number

Does anyone know how long before the 16th birthday an NI number should arrive in the post? My Dc turns 16 in two weeks but hasn't received one yet?

Usually 3 months before 16th Birthday. Might be worth giving them a call

My DS turns 16 in September & I had a letter last week about checking his name etc for issue of the NI number.

Have you received any correspondence?

My daughter was 16 two weeks ago and haven’t had anything other than the letter to check details a month or so ago,

I tried phoning but they never answered and just hung up saying they were busy

Dd's arrived a few months before. I am sure I read on here about a delay with issuing them recently.

I didn't get my NI number until I was 17, the jobcentre wrote it on a sticky note and I ended up losing it then it took me three years fighting a case to get it again 🙄 (got it saved somewhere permanent and memorised now 😂) hope your son doesn't have this issue! Not sure what went wrong with mine and why it was a such a big deal trying to get what was mine. It was really frustrating and it's still hard to believe the fuss over my NI number 😂 anyway, my sisters all came through a couple of months before hand I'm sure.

Yes was claiming child benefit. Thanks for the link, will contact them tomorrow.

My DS is 16 on Tues and his NI no arrived last Tuesday, so it may turn up soon.
