1st pregnancy vs subsequent, light hearted

Just having a bit of a chuckle to myself thinking how delighfully absorbed I was in my first pregnancy. Had lunch with a friend yesterday who is having her first, she had an app on her phone to show how big baby is, whether it had toes yet etc (as did I) , she described herself as 25+4.

I'm on pregnancy number 2, and am struggling to narrow it down to which month I'm in, never mind week. I've also lost one of the scan photos; I had the last ones in a frame!

Is this quite standard for most people I wonder?

Yes, also with first pregnancy I wouldn’t even lift a full bag of shopping, 2nd pregnancy was spent lugging 2yr old plus the shopping!

Camomila · 21/07/2019 08:27

I've been the opposite, 1st pg I went to work despite throwing up, 2nd pg the MS has been so bad that DS and I have moved in with DM and I lie in bed and she fetches me things Blush

Yes. With dc3 I almost forgot a midwife appointment, I remembered that I had somewhere to be 10 minutes before it started. With DD1 my whole pregnancy was spent counting down the days to the next appointment.

Second pregnancy I have reinstalled the app showing babies progress and their scan pictures are in frames on the side along side first borns. I've had the odd glass of coke is really the only difference.
But then my anxiety is even higher with pregnancy having being naive naive the first time round to how bad it can be even when you do it all right

NotSoThinLizzy · 21/07/2019 08:34

Yep totally normal I think. On my 3rd now and i "forget" I'm pregnant like it's not the biggest thing in my head atm 😂 it's all kids appointments and play dates.

Spam88 · 21/07/2019 08:51

Yeah I'm 19 weeks now and have just about stopped forgetting I'm pregnant (probably thanks to the little wriggler kicking me constantly). Every time the midwife asks me how far along I am I have to get my app out and check. Glad it's not just me!

HJWT · 21/07/2019 08:56

I still don't believe I'm having a baby tbh 🤣 even with the little bugger bruising my ribs already at 27 weeks! And having all of his stuff, with DD I was sooooo over excited were as this time I only remember there is a baby coming when he kicks me 😌

tisonlymeagain · 21/07/2019 08:56

Nope, pregnancy number 3 for me and I know I am 11+4 today. Not that I think about it that much but it's not hard to remember either.

RainbowPanda · 21/07/2019 08:59

Oooh does this mean subsequent pregnancies feel like they go a lot quicker? My first one felt like 9 years rather than 9 months!! But I would have been clock watching the whole way through.

cloudyinjune · 21/07/2019 09:29

Yes. I forget I am pregnant most of the time

SleepingStandingUp · 21/07/2019 10:23

Those who forget you're pregnant, do you just think you've got fat and achy suddenly lol. I'm tired all the time, I can't sit comfortably for long and I get ,nausea of I dare to not et every few hours

HJWT · 21/07/2019 10:26

@SleepingStandingUp no we obviously know are pregnant but just don't think about it constantly 🤣 DS seems to bury down in my cervix so most of the time I do just look fat until he moves back up then I look 9 months 🥴

SleepingStandingUp · 21/07/2019 10:32

Maybe when I get to the supposedly comfortable second trimester, which was meant to start two weeks ago. 15+3 and counting lol

ChipButtie · 21/07/2019 10:38

DC1 - I was indeed obsessed with charting my baby’s growth, reading baby books, shopping for the baby, talking endlessly about names etc. It was a very exciting time, though, and I look back fondly on it.

DC2 - hyperemesis! I was so incredibly sick it’s all a blur.

ButtonMooooon · 21/07/2019 10:49

I would say I am about the same although that could be as we had such a hard battle to get pregnant the second time. DS is 8 and I am 38 weeks today. It took 6 months to conceive DS naturally and 6 years and 3 rounds of IVF for this one so I do feel incredibly lucky and am very aware this time it will be my last pregnancy whereas last time I was quite blasé as I knew I would have another eventually

Zaphodsotherhead · 21/07/2019 10:52

With DC1 I went into maternity clothes at around week 12, I was just so excited for people to notice my (miniscule) bump.

With DC5 I just carried on wearing the baggy clothes I wore the rest of the time. Baby was born in the May after a nasty long winter, and a friend who met me with the pram said 'I didn't realise you were pregnant, I thought you were just wearing really big coats.'

Pinktinker · 21/07/2019 11:04

I had the apps with all of my pregnancies... With the last pregnancy my older DC enjoyed looking at what fruit the baby was that week.

Bwekfusth · 21/07/2019 11:07

First pregnancy I was worried about lifting a cup of tea, second pregnancy I was carrying a pram containing a 1 year old and bags of shopping hanging off the back up and down 4 flights of stairs as it was quicker than trying to bump it up.

Confusedandworried321 · 21/07/2019 11:12

Haha yes definitely. Pregnancy with a toddler already was described to me as a special kind of hell, and the first trimester was spot on. I would always forget what week it was, barely checked the app to see what size fruit the baby was, and whilst I wasn't anxious about the baby like in my first pregnancy, I wasn't so keen for him to come either (until his due date) as I knew what was to come with the lack of sleep!

gingersausage · 21/07/2019 15:38

With the first one I had a beautiful book that I filled in (it was a long time ago in the pre-digital age) with spaces to stick scan pics etc. Then after he was born, there were all the normal baby book pages. I made it look lovely with fancy coloured pens and everything.

Withe the second baby, I found her book in a box a few weeks ago, unopened. She’s 20 😂.
