Which politicians do you rate, regardless of party?

In these troubled times it’s hard to like an entire party.

I would like a government with the following cabinet members:

Jess Phillips
Tom Watson
Phillip Hammond
Jo Swinson
Ken Clarke
Michael Heseltine
Rory Stewart
Ian Blackford .

Anyone want to add some names to my list?

John Mann, Labour.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 20/07/2019 21:18

None of them. All lying idiots, in it for their own agendas.

redeyetonowheregood · 20/07/2019 21:18

Yvette Cooper

Jsmith99 · 20/07/2019 21:25

Caroline Lucas
Nicola Sturgeon
Kier Starmer
Yvette Cooper
Dominic Grieve
Justine Greening
Sarah Wollaston

BananaBeforeBed · 20/07/2019 21:28

Oh yes, Keir Starmer

OP posts:
EssentialHummus · 20/07/2019 21:29

Vicky Foxcroft.

DeathMetalMum · 20/07/2019 21:32

Ruth Davidson
Jess Phillips
Mhari Black

HillRunner · 20/07/2019 21:33

Kier Starmer.

John Mann is incredibly dishonest, really nasty piece of work. I have had the misfortune to come into contact with him a few times.

YeOldeTrout · 20/07/2019 21:33

Dominic Grieve impressed me. For saying "I have no information so can't possibly comment about that!" (BJ's row with girlfriend that police were called to attend).

Ken Clarke for having a good sense of humour in spite of the whole mess.

John Major for still striving against the bastards.

I respect Rory Stewart, Wollaston, Emily Thornbury, Stephen Kinnock, most the LibDems, Ruth Davidson, Caroline Lucas and others. I disagree with Nicki Morgan's politics but admire her for rolling sleeves up.

Cinammoncake · 20/07/2019 21:49

I think your list is a good one OP and agree with most the others mentioned here too, would add in Hilary Benn

BananaBeforeBed · 20/07/2019 21:52

John Major just sounds so statesmanlike these days, more than I ever remember.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 20/07/2019 21:55

Yvette Cooper

Cinammoncake · 20/07/2019 21:58

John Major just sounds so statesmanlike these days, more than I ever remember.

To me pretty much everyone from the past sounds good these days - would be happy to have any of Major, Brown, Blair back (and never thought I'd say that!) Even William Hague or Nick Clegg seem like a dream come true compared to Bojo/Corbyn

Eastie77 · 20/07/2019 22:05

Another vote for Ken Clarke. My friend, a staunch Labour supporter, worked in the Houses of Parliament and has a huge amount of respect for him. She said he often went out of his way to talk to and help her out. She was less effusive about many of the Labour MPs she came across.

TankGirl97 · 20/07/2019 22:16

I agree with your list. I’d add David Lammy, he’s intelligent, articulate and clearly actually cares about his constituents.
Also Vince Cable and Ed Davey.

BoogleMcGroogle · 20/07/2019 22:24

Quite a few actually, from most parties. But my special mention goes to Norman Lamb (Lib Dems) who has championed the cause of good mental health since before it was a popular one.

Tolleshunt · 20/07/2019 22:26

I agree with these, except John Mann. I would add Anna Soubry.

Generally, though, I think we have a dire lack of statesmen/women in the house these days. The only ones I can think of wouldn’t run for office these days, like Ken Clark and Hezza. I’m not even a Tory, but rate those two.

dementedma · 20/07/2019 22:27

Ken Clarke, Hilary Benn, Ruth Davidson, Rory Stewart

Hoppinggreen · 20/07/2019 22:29

Hilary Benn
David Lammy
I met Ed Davy and Jo Swinson not long ago, they were both nice but he was much friendlier.
Rory Stewart
John Major

whoaherewego · 20/07/2019 22:35

Agreed with pretty much all of the above and would add Stella Creasy.

HelloCheeky · 20/07/2019 22:52

Vicky Foxcroft, yes! decent, hard working and principled.

WhatAGreatDay · 20/07/2019 23:03

Ken Clarke, Keir Starmer, Yvette Cooper, Rory Stewart, William Hague

Harebel · 20/07/2019 23:15

Great echo chamber Hmm

Bar Rory, every single one mentioned is dire.

Do carry on though.

endofthelinefinally · 20/07/2019 23:39

This is depressing.
Did nobody read Ed Davey's web chat on here?
Read the Libdem's policies?
Listened to Caroline Lucas?
I wouldn't vote for anyone who "seemed nice".
Sad

cwg1 · 20/07/2019 23:47

Joan McAlpine MSP for her staunch and steadfast defence of women's rights.
