I've bought 3 foundations recently but they've all made my face cakey and can see every pore on my face (which is weird as I have good skin apart from some uneven skin tones) I don't want to pay loads so looking for cheap or mid range price ones. Is there anything that you are really happy with? looking for something illuminating, mid to full coverage would be good. Thanks!

You mention 'drugstore' OP are you in America? Only I think recommendations may differ if you are.

If your UK, I find Avon 'Mark' makeup really good and very reasonably priced.

GooodMythicalMorning · 20/07/2019 18:53

Im UK I just meant rather than expensive stuff like Jeffree star etc (which I love but can't afford)

I've tried so many foundations over the years but I've finally found my holy grail foundation, it's the boots no.7 hydraluminous foundation.

I have been watching a lot of american makeup tutorials on YouTube so that's probably where I've picked that term up...

I'd forgotten about Avon. I'm not sure if there is any reps nearby, im assuming you can order online these days though.

I like Maybelline Fit Me foundation, plenty of shades to choose from, medium coverage.

Soola · 20/07/2019 18:58

The problem is either your primer or the way you apply it.

I’ve found different foundations work with different applications. Some suit a brush, some fingers and some a blender or sponge.

But all will go cakey if your face isn’t primed first. A common mistake is to put foundation on too soon after moisturising.

You only need a tiny amount of foundation, people often use to much.

Bare minerals. It's a little on the price side, but lasts for ages.

No7 from Boots

I've recently discovered e.l.f. foundation serum, it's amazing. Evens out my skin tone and stays matte all day without powder.

LittleKitty1985 · 20/07/2019 19:01

Max factor facefinity, used it for years, never use primer

sproutsandparsnips · 20/07/2019 19:03

No 7 instant radiance or something like that....

HeyMicky · 20/07/2019 19:04

L'Oréal Pro Glo. It's only available online but definitely a high street price point. Glowy, dewy, buildable. It's really very flattering

amusedbush · 20/07/2019 19:04

Revlon Colour Stay is pretty good for a drugstore brand (I’m British and use that term too Blush)

GooodMythicalMorning · 20/07/2019 19:15

@Soola I tried all three with brushes, sponge and my fingers to see if it helps and tried different amounts to check I'm not over doing it. I prime but with a spray (Rimmel insta-fix?) so maybe trying a different primer would help.

Lots of good recommendations, will be taking a look at them later. The pro glo sounds interesting though.

At least I seem to be getting better at picking the right shade, kept getting too pale and looking like casper which is weird as I try them in the shop and they look fine.

My favourite primer is Benefit POREfessional but if you’re looking for a cheap as chips alternative I really recommend Nivea Post Shave Balm. A little goes a long way and it fixes my foundation for the whole day.

No 7 Hydraluminous foundation. I bought it after reading about it on here. It is perfect.

AuntieStella · 20/07/2019 22:05

I have a No7 tinted moisturisr which is fabulous. DD uses Superdrug own brands (MUA and Revolution). DSIS s sweats my Bourjois

HomerDancing · 20/07/2019 22:19

The Ordinary do two foundations - a lighter cover serum one and a coverage one. I use and recommend both. I apply with the real techniques sponge (wet), which really changes the way foundation looks.
