DD hurt her eye, still won't open it

Travelled to Wales with dd 5 and ds 8 yesterday to visit a friend. An hour into the journey realised that DD had somehow poked herself in the eye with a pen or a pencil. She wouldn't let me look properly but there was something on it, maybe a scratch but could have been gunge. Ended up at an a&e and they tried to look but had the same problem, she freaked and was squeezing her eyes shut. There seemed to be a streak of pink in the bit of gunge in the inner corner but from the bit of a look they managed they didn't think there was anything in it and gave me some ointment to put in it.

Today she has refused to open either eye apart from one slightly to go to the toilet and won't let me near her face. We have had cuddles and I have tried everything but she won't even let me look.

I'm with very intermittent phone signal or internet in the middle of nowhere and she wants to stay in bed and won't get up. Honestly don't know what to do, she gets hysterical if I press the point but the eyelid is swollen and it's still watering. Help!

Google
EHEW
It will allow you to access an emergency optometrist who can assess if she needs an eye casualty assessment
Roughly where are you?

taylorowmu · 21/07/2019 10:22

Hope she is ok

Any news OP? Just checking in to say I hope she's doing better. Hospital is scary for us grown ups so must be even worse for little ones bless them!

Hope they take it seriously and get a proper look somehow this time, that's a long time to not open her eye, poor girl.

SleepWarrior · 23/07/2019 16:09

How is she doing op?

A corneal abrasion is quite possibly the most painful thing I have ever encountered...her eye will be light sensitive. Hope she got seen quickly, unfortunately there's no treatment except time...fingers crossed for you.
