Holiday destinations in Malta and Turkey

Ironfloor269 · 20/07/2019 10:47

We are trying to book a last minute holiday to either Malta or Turkey. Somewhere we can relax on the beach. Ideally AI or half board.

Please could you recommend the best places you've been to in either of these countries? It'll help to have specific cities, regions in mind when booking a hotel.

TIA

Side in Turkey, marmaris ditto.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 20/07/2019 16:23

Seabank, Ghadira Bay, Mellieha, Malta. Water sports, good restaurants nearby and up the hill. Sandy beach, one of the few accessible ones in Malta.

curlycat · 20/07/2019 16:28

St Paul's bay in Malta x

martinidry · 20/07/2019 16:30

I second St Paul's Bay in Malta.

Ironfloor269 · 20/07/2019 18:18

Thank you, everyone. I'm currently looking at Mallieha as well. Has anyone been to Dalaman in Turkey?

Anatalya in Turkey. Specifically Belek.

amusedbush · 20/07/2019 19:02

We are going to Barut Lara this year

We are too, we’re going on October. I’ve never been to Turkey before but it looks gorgeous - I can’t wait!

blue25 · 20/07/2019 19:03

Kalkan in Turkey

MT2017 · 21/07/2019 00:25

@amusedbush will report back but agree, it looks gorgeous!! We go a month today so excitement is building Grin

DogbertDogglesworth · 21/07/2019 06:30

Side in Turkey is fab.
Dalaman and Marmaris are ok.
I can't comment on Malta.

Ironfloor269 · 21/07/2019 07:53

Thanks so much. I'll probably take Dalaman off the list then. It's quite daunting trying to book a holiday to a country you've no clue about so thanks for all your input.

Pine Bay resort Kusadasi, Turkey. The only place we have ever holidayed twice.

hilbil21 · 21/07/2019 08:27

We've booked Hilton dalaman saralgeme for september after hearing great things about it. can't wait!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/07/2019 08:29

I'm glad to see the seabank in Melleia on here as we are off there on Thursday and over never been so am hoping its nice.

BitchyArriver · 21/07/2019 08:31

I second Fethiye in Turkey.

pumpkinpie01 · 21/07/2019 08:36

Olu Deniz in Turkey is lovely

MingeOnFire · 21/07/2019 08:49

Another vote for seabank!

Malta and Turkey are very different. If you want to relax and do nothing I'd go for Turkey as it's cheaper, and ai is great. I've been to Side and would love to also go to Hisaronu as it looks beautiful.

Malta is lovely and there is so much to see. If you are into swimming in the sea I would definitely go for Malta as the water is gorgeous, we took a boat trip to the blue lagoon and you could just float. The water was quite murky around side when we went which was a disappointment.

amusedbush · 21/07/2019 10:54

@MT2017

Yes, definitely report back! Grin

Neither of us have been on a beach holiday for about 10 years as we always do city breaks. However we are currently renovating our first (bought) house and I'm doing my Masters while working full time so we figured a week in the sun would be welcome this year!

ReginaGeorgeous · 21/07/2019 11:06

Another vote for Olu Deniz, stunning place

EarlyMorningEyes · 21/07/2019 11:53

Turkey:
Olu Deniz is lovely. We often stayed at Hisaronu, in the hills above Olu Deniz.
I really liked Kalkan, but the town is very hilly - used to exhaust me walking back to the villa.
Also enjoyed Voyage at Torba.
We always had fabulous holidays in Turkey and found the locals to be incredibly kind and friendly.

Sosayi · 21/07/2019 20:08

Olu Denize
Beautiful it’s where the blue lagoon is which is very famous on most of turkeys holiday brochures
I’ve stayed at Sun City - great for kids
And Belzicki Beach Club fantastic beach /prom front hotel with amazing food

Small and walkable resort but lots of lovely restaurants and bars and shops it’s really gorgeous resort
Bus to Fethyie where they have a huge market and lovely marina and restaurants

Haven’t been to Malta for ages but stayed at the Meliah Bay and the intcontinental both lovely hotels

Of the two I would pick Turkey hands down
Been there lots of times and there is so much to do
I did a gullet cruise for a week with my niece a few years ago and it wad amazing and much cheaper to do in resort than booking in the uk

Sosayi · 21/07/2019 20:10

Only thing the beach at olu denize is shingle but if you walk up to the blue lagoon it’s sandy everywhere is a ten minute walk so easy to get to and it’s pretty flat unless you want to go walk up the hills ( which you won’t ) unless you do it on a dolmus
