Bourbon whisky recommendations sought

I'd like to buy some bourbon for a friend, but don't know what their preferred brand is. I know they don't like Jack Daniels (which I don't think qualifies as a bourbon anyway). If you can recommend something I'd appreciate it! Either a bottle or a selection of miniatures would be good, and ideally something I can buy instore rather than order. I live in a city so have access to the usual supermarkets and off-licenses.

Jim Beam is the best, and our Morrisons currently has a litre for £19.50 which is ridiculously cheap Grin

My dh is a fan of woodford reserve, which is very nice :)

Buffalo Trace is good. Some bourbon drinkers are a bit sniffy about JD.

Excuse the name but Knob Creek is nice (and you get lots of mileage out of 'knob' jokes). Asda sell it.

Definitely Woodford reserve

Notquitemyselfanymore · 19/07/2019 21:15

Bulleit or Woodford Reserve

Thanks everyone!

Jack Daniels is definitely a bourbon.

But yes Woodford Reserve is a good choice. As is Eagle Rare which you can now get in some UK supermarkets.

Another vote for Woodford Reserve.

ChinookPilotsGoVertical · 20/07/2019 01:09

Jack Daniels is definitely NOT a bourbon - a whiskey may only be called a bourbon if it's made in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
Maker's Mark is very nice, haven't tried Woodford Reserve but have heard it's good, must look into it - mostly I drink rum.

Jim bean is good especially when you use Moxie as a mixer

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 20/07/2019 01:31

Evan Williams is excellent. I like the cherry one, but the extra black aged is my favourite.

Flooopers · 20/07/2019 01:46

Jack Daniels is an abomination!

From a supermarket I'd be happy with a bottle of Makers Mark, Buffalo Trace or Woodford Reserve.

Bulleit is dh's favourite and I enjoy an occasional one with coke too.
