I just watched the trailer for the film version of Cats

Les Mis worked as a film. That was a good move.

I haven't actually seen Cats on stage but I think I could cope with human cats in a theatre. On screen it just looks weird.

Anyone else seen it?

I loved the stage show as a child but this looks weird as hell.

AngeloMysterioso · 19/07/2019 09:53

I think it looks great!

Clearly all the people bashing it have never seen the stage show... it’s just like the costumes they wear, except it’s CGI.

Love that they’re showcasing Frankie Hayward so much in the trailer!

Alakazam8 · 19/07/2019 10:01

I cant wait to see it. It’s not easy to try to bring to film but from the looks of the trailer it looks great.
Might be a love it or hate it type film. I’ve seen Cats on stage so many times and couldn’t miss it either way.

PineappleSeahorse · 19/07/2019 10:02

I've seen the stage show and it still looks completely terrifying. The stage makeup doesn't look nearly so bad as that awful CGI.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 19/07/2019 10:09

My parents bought me the 1998 recording for Christmas (it's essentially the filming of the stage show) and I thought it was batshit then!

I just watched it and got the arsehole clenching cringe. I just cannot get on board when it comes to Cats. It the one musical that I just cannot lose myself in. Fecking ALW

Nosquit · 19/07/2019 10:16

I think the CGI etc looks ok but I agree that the cats do seem to be too small compared to the set. More like large rat than cat size to me.
I’ll probably go and see it though, with my best friend for a girls day out.

mogtheexcellent · 19/07/2019 10:16

Its got a dancer from the royal ballet as one of the leads so im excited!

Soubriquet · 19/07/2019 10:24

I’ll watch it

I love Cats and I love Rebel Wilson who I’m guessing will be playing Jennyanydots.

I agree about Grizabella though. She looks too clean and tidy

NoBaggyPants · 19/07/2019 10:29

I'm looking forward to it. Don't do the cinema normally but this looks like something I could happily get lost in for a few hours.

Except James Corden. Gives me the creeps.

NoBaggyPants · 19/07/2019 10:30

Wasn't keen on Rebel Wilson but saw her on an episode of Travelman and really warmed to her.

mydogisthebest · 19/07/2019 10:33

I saw it on stage and loved it so will definitely be going to see the film.

I don't get the hate for James Cordon. I saw him in One Man Two Governors and he was brilliant. I have liked ever since that

Quite liked the trailer, not seen the stage show, normally hate most musicals, but the cast looks great, except Cordon cannot stand him.

.....except in G&S the only exception

SleepingStandingUp · 19/07/2019 10:48

I was underwhelmed with the musical but this I want to see. Amazing cast too! Only thing I'm gutted about is I won't get to see it at the cinema!

youngestisapsycho · 19/07/2019 11:02

I just cried watching the trailer... Memories.. I cry every time I hear it! DD can't wait to go see it, it's her favourite musical.

HMArsey · 19/07/2019 11:34

It’s the weird CGI fur, it makes their faces look oddly misshapen. Poor Jennifer Hudson looks like a man, the CGI on her has completely transformed her face shape.

I’ve seen the stage show, and the costume/make-up combo there is nowhere near as alienating.

I’m surprised this fella isn’t in it.

I just watched the trailer for the film version of Cats
TheStarChild · 19/07/2019 11:55

I've seen this on stage more times that I can count and was greatly excited for the movie.

Thoughts are:
Cats themselves are not bothering me, they are very similar to the stage cats. One complainant was upset they had 'boobs'. I assume she's never seen the stage show.

Sizing is a bit weird, the dining table scene over emphasises this.

James Corden as Bustopher Jones I can see working well detest JC but this works for me

Rebel Wilson is perfect for Jennyanydots

MonstranceClock · 19/07/2019 11:59

I think it looks awful. Cats was my favourite video over. And JH absolutely murders memory. So dissapointed.

DonkeyHohtay · 19/07/2019 12:02

I've seen Cats in the theatre. Yes it's weird. There's no real storyline as it's cobbled together from a selection of poems. DD (12) came with me and kept hissing to me "I don't understand what's going on". But that's sort of the point, you just go with the flow and watch the dancing and singing.

Hardly surprising that the film version is the same.

RosaWaiting · 19/07/2019 12:06

The set is meant to be giant I think.

I saw Francesca H in the Nutcracker, how lovely she’s in this.

Soubriquet · 19/07/2019 12:13

I’ve just been rewatching videos on YouTube GrinGrinGrin

I love listening to Elaine Page sing memories.

It sends chills down my spine

chemenger · 19/07/2019 12:18

I heard the trailer as DH was watching it, whoever sang Memories killed it, as in murdered it and stamped on the body, awful, slow and dirge like.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 19/07/2019 12:19

I love me a bit of catshit batshit so I'm looking forward to this Grin

Kazzyhoward · 19/07/2019 12:24

God no. I went to watch the theatre play and was bored out of my skull. Never seen such a load of crap. Just not my thing at all.

GlitchStitch · 19/07/2019 12:29

Creepy AF. The YouTube comments are funny though.
