Anyone have an idea of what I can have?

I'm so fed up of baked potatoes and I really don't want to cook 😭

It's bloody hard adjusting to this way of eating

Chicken tikka starter, most curries and rice.

Gf Pizza Hut

McDonald's without the bun

namechangeninjaevervigilant · 18/07/2019 18:29

A kebab but without the pita bread? I always leave that anyway.

Ihatesandwiches · 18/07/2019 18:29

What type of take away are you after?

Broken11Girl · 18/07/2019 18:33

Dominos do gf pizza.
Be careful if you want curry etc, there may be flour in sauces, cross-contamination could be an issue.
Have a look on Just Eat etc and see what you can find - you might be lucky and find somewhere good and with good knowledge of allergens.

mbosnz · 18/07/2019 18:35

Indian is fine, McD's (some of them) are fine - get a gf bun and toast it at home, GF Pizza, eg Pizza Hut or Dominoes, some sushi, some pasta places do GF pasta.

Preggosaurus9 · 18/07/2019 18:37

Easy meals

Gf pasta with any sauce, make your own from tinned toms or buy one, just check the label
Fajitas with gf wraps
Sweet potato wedges

Can even get gf fish fingers and steak pies in big supermarkets Grin

Also gf toast. Raw gf bread is grim but most of the brands are ok if toasted

Ihatesandwiches · 18/07/2019 18:38

Good fellas gluten free pizza. Keep one in thr freezer for next time. Also g/f pitta breads and then you can have the kebab with pitta :-)
What are you eating except baked potatoes? Most meals can be tweaked to be gluten free.

Xyzzzzz · 18/07/2019 18:39

Pakoras and curry’s are fine, in terms of Indian food, cause you can have gram flour.

Avoid any chapatis, naans etc as they’re made with wheat.

iklboo · 18/07/2019 18:40

If you've got Just Eat I think you can filter my gluten free options.

ReginaGeorgeous · 18/07/2019 18:41

My husband is coeliac and he reckons Pizza Hut's gluten free base is better than Domino's.

Our local chippy does gluten free night on a Monday, might be worth having a Google to see if you've got anything similar in your local area.

Nandos chicken is fine as are their chips.

Most Indian dishes are OK and poppadoms are usually made of rice flour.

batvixen123 · 18/07/2019 18:42

Indian is mostly good. Stock up on GF pizza and stuff in the freezer too. Pizza Express deliver through deliveroo in some areas and their gf dough balls are honestly nearly as good as the gluten ones.

batvixen123 · 18/07/2019 18:42

Oh, and Nandos are pretty safe.

mbosnz · 18/07/2019 18:43

GF PIzza Express and their dough balls is part of how we ended up shifting over to the UK.

HippyChickMama · 18/07/2019 18:47

And for eating out @TheyCallMeMellowYellow download the Glass Onion app. It allows you to filter the menus for local pubs and restaurants by dietary requirements.

underthebridgedowntown · 18/07/2019 18:52

It is bloody hard adjusting, but once you've found your favourites and your short cuts it gets so much easier Smile

Indian or pizza are my go-to for delivery, I tend to go for the spicier curries as I've read that it's the milder ones that are more likely to have gluten-y additives. All restaurants have to have allergy information though, so don't be afraid of asking. If you have Deliveroo or JustEat then filter on gluten free for your area - Greek food can be absolutely awesome!

underthebridgedowntown · 18/07/2019 18:53

Oh and find a chippie near you that does gluten free - that's my birthday treat, the takeaway I miss the most.

Well, except for Chinese food, but I try not to think about that too much Sad

awaynboilyurheid · 18/07/2019 18:56

Check if your local Indian restraints use gram flour in pakora and curries as some do, some fish and chip places do gf fish and chips when you find one it’s heaven!
Most places do gf meals now check out the gf blogger on f book
It’s difficult at first you have my sympathy, but a wise person told me to only focus on what you can have!
It made me rethink my attitude to being gf . Also we are growing in numbers, so it’s going to keep improving in the range of food available.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 18/07/2019 18:59

I imagine a lot of Thai food is OK?

AtleastitsnotMonday · 18/07/2019 19:02

Prezzo do a really extensive gf menu

DottyDotAgain · 18/07/2019 19:04

Indian is my go to takeaway and I also have a local chippy that does gf fish and chips, so I'm lucky!

I miss Chinese though....

Gf pizza Express pizzas are OK to buy and heat up.

It is more difficult, especially at first - I'm 13 years in and you do get used to it, but I went through quite a mourning period at first...

TheyCallMeMellowYellow · 18/07/2019 19:11

Wow, thanks everyone!

Definitely some things to check out. I was never really big on pizza but knowing I can't have it makes me want it Grin so I will definitely look into the GF ones.

I am definitely in a period of mourning!

Chinese food is the one thing I will really miss. It was our thing. Every weekend we would have a Chinese and film night... it's just not the same now.
I've been living on baked potatoes, rice and veg. oh, and eggs. I've only been diagnosed just over a week and I'm already struggling!
The silver lining is I've lost 4lb!
I can't believe how much I used to nibble on things without noticing... now that I have to actually think about what I'm eating, I'm eating a lot less!
I miss quavers 😭😂

Pizza express have gf penne as standard now as well as a good gf pizza and dough balls

Mumski45 · 18/07/2019 19:18

Some Chinese is ok. If you are anywhere near Manchester the Yang sing is very good for gluten free dishes.

mbosnz · 18/07/2019 19:21

You might want to learn how to make Chinese yourself, gluten free, if that's what you're yearning.

Our daughter is GF, diagnosed as coeliac when she was four, so nearly ten years ago, and we've learned so much about how to make food that isn't usually GF, GF. It can be done!

awaynboilyurheid · 18/07/2019 19:30

Not quite quavers but Pom bears are gf !
