LONGSHOT!

I know this is a longshot by is there anyone on here that resat their Maths exam in 1997 (having first taken it in summer 1996) with the midlands exam group (MEG).
My mother has managed to lose all my old GCSE certs (having insisted I leave them at home for 'safekeeping'🙄)
I'm trying to get replacement ones but I cannot for the life of me remember which month I did my resit in-I've got in my head Feb or March, but it was 25 years ago so it hazy. I can apply to the government for replacement but they need the exact month (and it's £46 an enquiry wether they find it or not).
I need to get my exam certs by August 31st as at the last minute I've been accepted to PGCE next year but they absolutely will not let me start training without the certificates!
What a mare!

bumping this for your OP. I did MEG maths GCSE but in the summer so can’t help with exact dates

Iambouddica · 18/07/2019 16:07

Congratulations on getting on to your PGCE too

Knittedfairies · 18/07/2019 16:19

Could you try the local Facebook page where you took the exam to see if anyone remembers? It seems a bit daft that they need the exact month though. Good luck!

HoobleDooble · 18/07/2019 16:28

I sat mine through MEG but in 1989, my resit was in November (basically went into the 6th from, worked through a few past papers and resat it 2 months later).

historysock · 18/07/2019 16:41

Oh god now you've said that I feel like mine could have been November 🤷🏽‍♀️. I recall it being in Winter (but only vaguely).
I've tried Facebook, no joy.
My choices are at this point to pay £46 for each month it could possibly be-so about 6 months worth at this rate, (plus two months worth for English because I can't remember if it was May or June with a different exam board 😑), or just ditch the whole thing 😭.

Thankyou everyone for replying and bumping

I’m almost sure resits then were in November.

historysock · 18/07/2019 16:46

School have no record. And the exam
Board themselves can't tell me (which is weird surely because they can only have had two sets of resists for any one year surely?🤷🏽‍♀️).

What a bugger. Do you remember the name of anyone who rest the exams with you? If so you could try contacting them and asking if they remember or still have their certificates so they can check the date. Long shot indeed.
Hope you find what you're looking for and can take up your place. Good luck!

FWIW resits in my day were Nov as per Hooble s post. In my case that was many, many moons ago though. Perhaps start with Nov and you might get lucky.

Name7 · 18/07/2019 17:13

Resits used to be November and March. Although fewer did it in March. For your English there may have been a paper in May and another in June. However I sat mine in a few years earlier and did 100% coursework.

historysock · 18/07/2019 17:51

English deffo may or June 96.
Resit Maths it seems might have nov 96 or March 97 then. I might just have to have 100 quid punt on it being one of them and keep everything crossed 🙈.
If there was a bit more time I wouldn't be as stressed as could just go through the months till I got the right one but there is a four week turn around and I have about 6 weeks to get hold of them Sad.
And I also need to pass the QTS maths test in that time as well (which is not the one when you haven't done said Maths since 1996)
Trying very hard not to be mad with my mum. I drove 3 hours to look for them last weekend and found everything of my sisters from school, and everything of my brothers and nothing of mine-which she seemed to find quite funny 😑.
