Gallbladder Question!

Sorry I know this is the wrong board but it often takes so long to even get a couple of answers on general health!

I went to the Gp back in February with bloating and a pain/feeling as if something was stuck under my right rib. After a scan they said I had three Gallstones and would need my gallbladder out which happened in early March. The day after surgery I still had the weird feeling under my rib but the consultant said that I needed to give everything time to settle down.

So 4 months on I'm sitting here with the feeling as if something is stuck under my right rib and major bloating every time I eat. The feeling under my rib comes and goes but is there more often than not and the bloating/gassy pain in the top of my abdomen is there most of the day and is making me feel awful, I'm tired and sluggish and feel like shit from about an hour after waking which is basically how I felt before my gallbladder was removed. The bloating can occur after eating a salad or after eating chips, there is no rhyme or reason.

Has anyone had their gallbladder removed and still felt awful? Could it be something else and not gallbladder related?

Just to add even though they said it was the gallstones I never ever had one of the "attacks" that I've heard about so now I'm wondering if i needed my gallbladder out 🤷‍♀️

Can anyone help?! Please!!

I had pancreatitis, and it was exactly as you described, but more extreme. I was admitted for several days to be stabilised and then a few weeks later, they whipped my gallbladder out. I've had no after effects really, (other than if I eat Kale, which is v random) but they did say to me that even if the gall bladder is removed, there is a chance that you might have issues in the longer term.

Have you been back to the GP?

wilberforce2 · 18/07/2019 17:36

No I haven't been back yet as I wanted to give it a few months to settle and my GP isn't the friendliest!! I think I'm going to have to make an appointment though as I can't carry on feeling like this it's awful.

Thanks for replying. x

I felt fine a couple of weeks after having my gallbladder out. Until I started having problems with my bile duct 🙄

Yes - it's likely Stone/s in your bile duct or your pancreas playing up. Could be sphincter of Oddi dysfunction but that's more pain than bloating, generally

Oh I'm going to have to go back aren't I? Was really hoping it was going to go away. We go on holiday Saturday so I'm hoping I will feel ok for that and then I can see the GP when I return.

Hi @wilberforce2, I know this is an old thread but wondering how you are doing? Sorry to ask just I have similar symptoms with bloating, pain in hip under right ribcage. Am booked in for blood tests but don't think I can cope with the bloating. Have had shaky symptoms over last few weeks and felt generally unwell. Spoke to gp, awaiting bloods etc. Hope you're ok and they got to the bottom of it x
