If you can go to the piercer, or pharmacy. They'll direct you to your GP if needed. That might be the quickest thing to do.

If not, then a walk in, but don't leave it.

Birdie6 · 18/07/2019 08:14

It just looks a bit inflamed / swollen. Don't take the stud out - just get some antibacterial cream and dab it around the stud a couple of times a day. Swabbing it with methylated spirit also helps.

sunnysunchild · 18/07/2019 08:19

It really doesn't hurt at all, there's no gunk. But the lumpy bit of skin looks like it's getting bigger.

It looks like the start of a keloid to me. I had one with a rook piercing that just wouldn't take so I ended up taking mine out.

Biancadelrioisback · 18/07/2019 08:34

It happens some times with cartilage piercings. I was recommended cleaning the lump with salt water twice a day to get rid and it worked for me.

MunaZaldrizoti · 18/07/2019 08:37

Agree with Biancadelrioisback

Winegumaddict · 18/07/2019 08:43

I agree it looks like a keloid scar. Mine developed one. There was no infection just a lump of skin. I cleaned it as I would any new piercing and it settled down. But do consult your piercer as they are the expert.

le1la · 18/07/2019 09:01

Someone recommended that I make a paste from a dissoluble aspirin and put it on with a cotton bud when mine did this, but I agree with everyone above - talk to your piercer. They do tend to go on their own eventually, so long as you don't knock it or sleep on it.

GrimDamnFanjo · 18/07/2019 09:05

I'm pretty sure it's not a keloid but just a piercing bump.
Don't take the earring out!
It will go down but you need to be patient. Good ways to treat include warm saline compresses - you can buy saline from places like amazon. Some people use chamomile teabags too.
Cartilage piercings can be very tricky and you need to persevere, there are lots of body piercing forums which can offer advice but I'd also ring your piercer to check all is well.

NerdyBird · 18/07/2019 09:43

Have you got a labret (flat back) or barbell in? When I had a prob with mine I was recommended to get a barbell so there was more 'space' around the hole. Could be worth a try.

sunnysunchild · 18/07/2019 10:03

It's a labret that's in. Its about 2 months old.
I love it and really dont want it to come out.
I've just been trying to leave it alone lol

You can buy plastic rings (look like washers) to go either side of the piercing that sit against the skin as opposed to the metal; it helps the lump swelling go down. Cant for the life of me remember what they are called but if you ring up the piercer they may be able to advise.

TeaStory · 18/07/2019 11:57

It’s just an irritation bump, really common with cartilage piercings. Keloids look different and are permanent, you’d know by now if you were prone to them.

Rinse it daily with shower water and dry it thoroughly with a hair dryer. Get your piercer to take a look if you’re worried.

Havingarethink · 18/07/2019 13:45

I was super precious about my tragus piercing as I have had problems with various piercings before. Then one day the ball came off at work and I was paranoid that it would close up by the time I went to Blue Banana so I used a normal earing as a temporary measure instead. That was years ago and I now use normal earings with no pain, swelling or infections, it is by far the best and easiest piercing I have ever had.

BiscuitDrama · 18/07/2019 13:48

I had similar and had success with Prontolind spray from amazon. I found it easier to get on there than a saline soak.

DMCWelshcakes · 18/07/2019 13:57

Speak to your piercer. Looks like a standard stage of the healing process for a cartilage piercing to me. All of mine did it, but there are no lumps now.

Choccyhobnob · 18/07/2019 16:13

That's just a bump. My Daith and conch both got them. Sea salt washes (3 pinches of salt to one cup of water) twice a day should sort it out. I got my tragus done 3 weeks ago and although it hardly hurts it has one of those bumps but seems to be filled with blood, it's proper manky! I don't like the labret back as I can't get to the back to clean it at all now it's a bit angry and swollen. Just going to keep with the the salt washes, don't want to give up on it!

WishMyNameWasWittyNotShitty · 18/07/2019 18:34

Mine did this a few weeks back, I've had the piercing for about 7months, so was surprised when i woke up to a lump one morning.

I used warm salt water on it 3 times a day, and held the cotton wool on for about 5 mins each time to soak it, it went completely after about 3 days.

Maybe try that until you can speak to your piercer.

Sparklyring · 18/07/2019 18:37

Nothing to worry about, mine did the same. It never settled down though so I took it out and lump was gone in under 2 weeks. No mark or scar from piercing or lump now.

DogbertDogglesworth · 18/07/2019 18:39

Warm salt water OP 2-3 times daily.
My youngest has a pierced tragus that went a bit lumpy, salt water sorted it fine.
She had her back corsetted and that did the same, she ended up bathing in warm salt water for a few days and it healed lovely.

CalvinJohn · 18/07/2019 19:54

I'm agreeing it's a keloid. I ended up removing mine as it just got bigger. Got my Tragus pierced on the other side without a problem.

bizzers · 19/07/2019 15:21

Are you sure you haven't accidentally knocked it? I did that with mine about 3 months after I got it done and it looked just like that! I just kept using tea tree oil and it went right down. My piercing took around 10 months to completely heal, so don't give up with it!
