Over the last year, my 11 year old has acquired a phone, oyster card, house key & wallet. But she has not good any sensible system to keep them safe out of the house. Sometimes they go in a pocket, sometimes they go in a backpack, sometimes they go missing and then she panics.

Being old & dull, I keep all these things in a handbag. But DD doesn't like that. So what is an good way to keep these things safe and easy to find?

My daughter sometimes carries a shoulder bag, sometimes a back pack. Her valuables are in a wallet, she just transfers from one to another.

One of those handbags that you wear over your shoulder like an old fashioned school satchel.

Term time:

  • key in school bag (small inside zip pocket)
  • phone in blazer pocket
  • purse in small bag in bedroom

Holidays

  • all in the small bag on peg in hall

When out and about

  • phone in bag or pocket
  • key round neck or bag
  • purse in bag or a zip pocket in coat

Casting my mind back 10 years. My 11 year old was supposed to keep them all safe in her backpack or inside pocket. In reality l replaced the oyster card and keys more times than can remember. Funnily she never lost her phone l suppose that was always in her hand. Broke it lots though. I started making her pay for lost stuff. Once a year l would pay anything else came out of pocket money

Dd (14) She has a phone case that has a little hidden compartment to keep a bus pass and a spare £5. These are kept along with her keys in a zipped blazer pocket.

Her case also has a finger ring thing I bought and if she's. It at school but out with friends she has the phone in her hand constantly and the keys are clipped onto the ring thing alongside earbuds and a cash and debit card in the phones case instead of busspass.

I'll add she's never lost or broken anything either. Dh on the other hand has lost his phone, keys and debit cards twice in the last year 🙄
