ScrambledToe · 17/07/2019 17:03

2 kids, 4 teachers (job shares) plus 2 TA. £30! Shock

I only got them chocs.

Luckily my dc do 2yrs in the same class so I only ever buy a gift when they’re actually moving out of the classroom and to another teacher. So won’t be buying anything at all next year Grin

£34. 3 teachers £4 goods plus £30 labour.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 17/07/2019 21:45

A fiver.A mug that says "I'm a teacher what's your super power?"

HappyLoneParentDay · 17/07/2019 21:46

@AtSea1979 I'm so curious! May I ask what it is please?

@MaybeitsMaybelline why is this silly bollocks? I can not tell you how much my DS teacher has done for my son above and beyond what is required in her role. I didn't want to give her something consumable or too personal. She is into her appearance why not get her something we think she would like? My son picked out the colours and he made a card to go with the gift.

Whitecandle · 17/07/2019 21:48

Jesus Christ. Just when you think you'll save a bit of money once your child goes from a private nursery into full time school you have to pay for Chanel pallets!!

SherlocksDeerstalker · 17/07/2019 21:49

My friend is a primary teacher. She was once gifted a Rolex as an end of year gift Grin and yes, I’m serious.

Somersetlady · 17/07/2019 21:49

@Pinespow no joke. It was a special year as my son was moving on. Last year just Kerastase product for her hair much lower cost.

It takes me less than an hour to earn that so i don’t think it’s over the top to spend an hours wage on a gift for someones hard work and dedication over a two year period.

RiftGibbon · 17/07/2019 21:50

£10 donated to a collection for 'as many of the class as want to contribute'. So far a very nice print which has been personalised has been bought for the classroom wall. I understand there's about £150 to spend on one class teacher now as a result of this, and the option of John Lewis vouchers has been mooted.

HappyLoneParentDay · 17/07/2019 21:50

@Somersetlady I think it's lovely! I expect she'll be thrilled! Please report back on her reaction :)

To PPs, I get where you're coming from but when it's a really well thought out gift that is given with the right sentiment and for the right reasons (ie: actual heartfelt appreciation) then I think it's to be commended.

Whatdayisit2 · 17/07/2019 21:51

A lot. 3 kids, 4 teachers plus support staff and wraparound care. At least £50 🙄

Titsywoo · 17/07/2019 21:54

My kids are at secondary but still like to get small gifts for their favourite teachers so I'd say I spent £30 between them (they bought 8-10 gifts each for about £1.50-2.00 per gift) on little chocolate things from the supermarket.

CherryPavlova · 17/07/2019 21:54

£200 when our youngest left sixth form - a suggested amount for each child’s family to put into pot for housemistress.
£150 for school library when each of others left high school plus usually £10/£20 for the children to buy something for their form tutor or other special teacher.
Usual bottle of something nice when they were in primary school - about £25 per teacher or TA.

Worlds0kayestmum · 17/07/2019 21:55

£1 on a multipack of galaxy chocolate bars, DD has made a card for both her teachers and the TA and will stick a chocolate bar in each. I don't have much money to spare so it's only a token because she wanted to give something

elQuintoConyo · 17/07/2019 21:55

Zero euros.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 17/07/2019 21:57

£4 preschool chocs
£4 teacher (plus bag that we already had which DD has decorated and personalised)
£4 TA
£3 Rainbows leader as DD is leaving.
I'll prob spend around £5 on CM and write her a soppy card as she's looked after my children for the last 6 years 😱 and next week is the last week 😥

I don't care what other people are buying or not buying tbh. I've chosen to stick with our budget and thank the people who have done so much for my children. DDs love giving presents so it's partly for their benefit too.

NeverTwerkNaked · 17/07/2019 22:04

We had a collection in DD year R class so I put £10 in to cover teacher and TA

DS teacher was totally awful to him all year despite him being a really well behaved child who loves learning. So she's getting nothing

Somersetlady · 17/07/2019 22:06

@HappyLoneParentDay she was very touched said it was too much and we didn't have to do that. I said i know we didn't have to but we appreciated all she did and wanted to get her something we thought she would like.
She loved the card my son made her and said she keeps all the cards. They have a very special connection and he has already asked if he will be able to go back and see her next year when his younger DC is still at the school.
She said she would wear it tomorrow for graduation. It looked fab on her too!
I also sent in a cake for all the other staff to share in the classroom with a thank you note from us as a couple.

It’s a small school and we are lucky they are an extremely hard working dedicated bunch of professionals who really make a difference!

MsJuniper · 17/07/2019 22:11

We do £10 contribution for teacher + TA and get vouchers to split, plus each child gets a label to write a message which we put in a big card. Probably some flowers or a plant too.

georgialondon · 17/07/2019 22:15

I don't think it's a competitive thing. We buy what we feel we want to buy. This year it was 2 x £15 vouchers. Next year it might be more or if I'm not happy with them it might be nothing. It's personal choice!

georgialondon · 17/07/2019 22:17

@FrancesHaHa I used to be a Dr and we and the nurses and caters accepted gifts all the time. There was no blanket rule.

Buildalegohouse · 17/07/2019 22:22

£32 on my DD's 3 teachers.

From the other side, as a teacher, I have spent around £80 on gifts for my Y6 class.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 17/07/2019 22:22

2 kids. DS is in year 6 so brought his teacher, his TA and the deputy a Yankee candle each and just getting dd teacher some chocs as she’s only in year 1 😊

Hadenoughofitall441 · 17/07/2019 22:23

Think I’ve spent about £50 altogether

FunnysInLaJardin · 17/07/2019 22:24

£10 for DS2's primary teacher. Nothing for DS1's secondary teachers, he would not bear the shame Grin

ohtheholidays · 17/07/2019 22:25

Am I the only one that hasn't got around to it all yet?

DD11 is leaving primary school so I won't be surprised if I end up spending about £100 because we like to get something for all of the staff( a group gift)and then something extra special for her teachers and ta's.

We've always done that when 1 of our DC as moved up from primary school.
