How much have you spent on teacher end of term gifts?

2 kids, 4 teachers (job shares) plus 2 TA. £30! Shock

I only got them chocs.

Luckily my dc do 2yrs in the same class so I only ever buy a gift when they’re actually moving out of the classroom and to another teacher. So won’t be buying anything at all next year Grin

A bottle of Prosecco and bunch of flowers for the childminder.

ScrambledToe · 17/07/2019 17:53

It’s not usual at secondary @MichelleC69. I won’t be bothering then either!

£20 contribution to class present (John Lewis giftcard) for teacher and TA. I agree that parents should feel no obligation at all to give presents to the professionals that teach/care for their children. A sincere thanks/card is great but personally I like to show my appreciation by giving a gift too. As a secondary teacher, I get how mentally and emotionally tough it can be and if a teacher is good, I really think they deserve it.

Ours do a group thing. This year I gave nothing and let ExH handle that side of things! But I think in general parents give £15, for one day teacher and one TA.

earlydoors42 · 17/07/2019 20:23

Nothing at all. I don't think I ever have, except maybe for a TA who went above & beyond for my daughter who has type 1 diabetes and needed a lot of help - but often in other classes didn't get it.

By the time my youngest child leaves this primary school, I will have had kids there for over 16 years so am going to get the office lady something as she has helped me out a lot :-)

Welliesandpyjamas · 17/07/2019 20:29

Combined total of 8 adults (2 teachers, 6 TAs) for my youngest two dc. Much as I would like to treat them all to something amazing (because they are amazing), I spent £4 on 4 Terry's choc oranges and £1.50 on a pack of thank you cards - from DS2. And spent Sunday afternoon making personal gift boxes with DD, and filling them with sweets - from DD. It will be evident that we haven’t spent much but it is a genuine gesture of thanks that fits in our budget. If any of them don’t think much of my spend then I just hope they keep it themselves.

Welliesandpyjamas · 17/07/2019 20:29

*to themselves

Chilledout11 · 17/07/2019 20:32

I bought yankee candles for Pre school and a photo frame for the teacher

soulrunner · 17/07/2019 20:34

We have a collection- tenner per child - 60% teacher, 40% TA. Generally they get vouchers.

elliejjtiny · 17/07/2019 20:37

Each of my primary aged children brought in a tin/tub of chocolates for the staff in their class to share. I buy the tins and tubs when they are on offer so spend £5 each, £20 total.

FrancesHaHa · 17/07/2019 20:39

I'm always surprised that teachers are allowed to accept expensive gifts.

I've worked in various jobs in the voluntary and public sector, and rules have usually been we're not allowed to accept gifts over £5 and / or gifts can only be things that must be shared with the whole office eg box of chocolates.

Do teachers not have similar rules in state schools?

HairyFloppins · 17/07/2019 20:43

Nothing. No-one has gone above and beyond enough for my hard earned cash.

dementedma · 17/07/2019 20:45

Nothing

Maryann1975 · 17/07/2019 20:48

3dc. £5 costa voucher for each teacher and 2 TAs. £25 in total. It’s a token and I won’t be drawn in to competitive gift giving. Some classes have very organised parents who organise a collection, but no one has started one this year in my dc years. I always think it’s nicer when they are given one larger gift voucher for somewhere they will actually use rather than lots of chocolates, wine and flowers. (Although sil and best friend are teachers so we generally do very well out if the chocolates and wine).
But it is always nice to be appreciated at the end of the year.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 17/07/2019 20:49

Daughter only wanted to send a card to two of them, so £3 total.

CraftyGin · 17/07/2019 20:51

Zero.

I have only ever chipped in when there is an organised gift from the whole class.

Parsnippy · 17/07/2019 20:52

My 3 DC have 4 teachers and 2 TAs. Spent £8, £5, £4, £4, £3, £3 so £27

Also £33 on voluntary leaders for extra curricular activities.

£60 😱 I should have added that up earlier. I might try to wind it in a bit next year.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 17/07/2019 20:53

£57 for a Chanel make up palette

WTAF

So glad I haven’t had this silly bollocks for at least 11 years since the youngest left primary school.

Livingthedream12345 · 17/07/2019 21:10

DD took in a big box of tea bags and load of biscuits along with her thank you card this morning. I always appreciated a treat in the staff room, hope others think the same!

CraftyGin · 17/07/2019 21:17

Tins of biscuits are good for end-of-term staffroom gifts. They will get so many cakes that have to be eaten in the last week. It is so nice to come back after the holidays to nice biscuits.

£20 into collection for nursery staff.... its being split between teacher, nursery nurse, TA and the morning and afternoon helper (5 ways)

£30 DC year 1 teacher and TA. They have been beyond amazing.

£50 to the people who have nurtured, cared for, supported and encouraged my kids for the majority of the year is nothing. I will also send the headteacher an email to commend the staff and give positive feedback.

Pinespow · 17/07/2019 21:38

Ridiculous that people spend so much money... A chanel eyeshadow kit, gotta be a joke

HappyLoneParentDay · 17/07/2019 21:42

My DD is in Pre-School and due to it being over-subscribed, she spends 2 days a week in the smaller kids group. Meaning I have 15 staff members to consider. Therefore I'm getting a big fruit basket. £15

superking · 17/07/2019 21:43

3x £8 bottle of wine for 2 teachers (job share) and TA. £10 into collection for pre school staff gift. So £34 total.
