How much underwear do you own?

Doing the summer clean out of all the wardrobes etc and I’m actually shocked at how many pants and socks I have. Bras is a different story as for some reason all of mine (no matter how expensive) seem to be horrible within weeks Confused

I probably have about 60 pairs of pants and 60 pairs of socks that I’ve accumulated over the past few years. All are still in pretty good condition so I feel terrible throwing them away but I have two huge drawers just full of them. Am I alone in this? How many shall I throw away?!

Don't throw away - recycle.

cheeseheaven · 17/07/2019 14:58

That was another question actually - does anyone know what I can do with old pants and socks?

Look for your local textile recycling bank. They'll sort into charity shop saleable (probably not for socks and undies) and the rest gets shredded and bought by insulation manufacturers or similar and there is a donation made to someone like the air ambulance as waste fabric has a small value of something like 50 p a kilo.

They take bras too. They can recycle them, or if still in good condition be resold, usually overseas in poorer countries, where people generally can't afford retail, but can afford a few pence or whatever.

If in good condition there's charities that pass on bras and pants to women overseas that don't have them (I donate new ones but they take second hand as long as in good condition)

If you want to use them up, take the 10 oldest ones, wear only those until they are fit for the recycling. Then the next oldest etc, by sticking to only 10ish, you will wear through them quicker than if you are wearing all 60 in rotation.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/07/2019 15:17

But that would take years and not helping the OPs decluttering efforts in the short term.

Lots. I only wear sets now as I like my panties/knickers to match my bra so I buy a couple of pairs of them, sometimes different styles.

No periods for years so all my underwear now is lovely. I hated having a period and having to wear some plain old cotton ones.

Soola · 17/07/2019 15:18

Just keep the beautiful stuff.

FlamedToACrisp · 17/07/2019 16:09

Just looked at the revolting saggy grey hippo knickers and deathgrip-ankle socks in my drawer. If anyone needs me I'll be in the garden burying the evidence.

Dowser · 17/07/2019 18:13

None
Halve them and put half in the loft

dudsville · 17/07/2019 18:16

I've got about 14 pants, 12 bras and about 4 pairs of each kind of sock or tights I need (seasonal). If everything you have is in good condition perhaps you could store 2/3rds for later and then annually chuck or what's worn and add in the "new" stuff?
