Can you please spam me with your recipes to use up the above? Clearing out the pantry and no idea why but have 3/4 bags each of the them and rarely use them.
Would like veggie recipes if poss (not veggie but trying to eat more veggie)
I already have a pretty good daal recipe.
I usually make a soup with them but it's not the weather for it!
TIA!

Red lentil burgers?
Or red lentil chilli? Add beans and veggies.

I know that i often see pearl barley risotto on menus these days but i haven't tried it as i can't est pearl barley.
Also noticed pearl barley as a grain in salads.

Those are real winter foods.

My best red lentil recipe is dahl too, so unless you want it (spinach lemon and garlic dahl) I can't help much.

In this weather I might want to look at spicy lentil rissole recipes served fried with salad.

Pearl barley makes a nice risotto base: you could try it with butternut squash, leeks, grana padano and fresh herbs.

We put them in soup with whatever else we've got lying around, they make it into a really lovely, filling soup (with some nice bread and salted butter)

Barley risotto is delicious

if they are split lentils I often add them to mince recipes to bulk them out.

I quite often make a red lentil mash:

Add veg or chicken stock then cook on the hob until it basically turns to mush, box in loads of butter and black pepper. It freezes well too. Great as an alternative to potato mash.

'box' in? 'mix' in even!

Cook your pearl barley in a half a stock cube, then stir fry it with some corgette, spinach, carrot, soy sauce, rice vinegar and a pinch of 5 spice. Add spring onions at the end.

I take this for my lunch at least once a week.

I use pearl barley as a salad, usually something taboulleh-ish, especially good as a side fish for anything bbqed.

Red lentils - make burgers or falafel-type balls, can be eaten hot or cold.

There's a lovely Jack Monroe recipe for red lentil and spinach soup, it's my favourite soup and not too heavy for this weather.

Cook the barley like rice on its own or make a risotto.

There are loads of recipes for pearl barley risotto. These are my favourite, www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/mushroom-and-spinach-pearl-barley-risotto/ and www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/pearl_barley_butternut_61137
