I have a sticker on my front door which says ‘We do not buy or sell at this door, and require no free advice’. It’s from the local authority, so official looking. Very young man rings my bell, I answer it, he begins his speech. I smile at him, say I’m going to stop you there, I don’t deal with cold callers, point to my sign, and he sees it and says ‘we’ve been told to ignore those’
I’m not sure how he thinks he’s going to get a donation from me after that.
I really dislike people going door to door asking for things, it’s intrusive and puts the vulnerable in difficult situations. Not his fault, and I’m never rude, but it really puzzles me why charities think this is good practice.

I also have a no cold callers sign but I still get cold callers . It makes me laugh they are all so friendly until I say sorry love and point to sign and say not interested I give to charity , don't need to change energy supplier etc all perfectly pleasant and the attitude changes and they storm off . I just think save yourself the hassle and don't ignore the sign Hmm.

It’s done through a company called wesser.

Normally students paid pence to recite a script about the charity in order to try to get people to sign to regular donations.

Oh blimey, that used to be the unemployed duster sales people’s tactic (including kicking my plants), which is one of the reasons I got the sticker, I didn’t want my DC’s dealing with them!
Most people are a bit embarassed when I point out the sticker, usually just apologise and leave.

"We're told to ignore those".

How rude is that!!!!!. Knocking on people's doors asking for money bordering on harassment. Well no, its not bordering on, it is harassment.
