I have a sticker on my front door which says ‘We do not buy or sell at this door, and require no free advice’. It’s from the local authority, so official looking. Very young man rings my bell, I answer it, he begins his speech. I smile at him, say I’m going to stop you there, I don’t deal with cold callers, point to my sign, and he sees it and says ‘we’ve been told to ignore those’
I’m not sure how he thinks he’s going to get a donation from me after that.
I really dislike people going door to door asking for things, it’s intrusive and puts the vulnerable in difficult situations. Not his fault, and I’m never rude, but it really puzzles me why charities think this is good practice.
