Keeping calm tips required for big interview tomorrow!

I have a really important job interview tomorrow, for a role I really know I can do. I have previously worked in a deputy manager position in a similar role but this is the manager role. It is actually two grades higher than my current role so I was quite shocked to even get an interview! In a way I am quite excited to go in and show what I can do (I need to do a short presentation which is all prepped), but I get very, very nervous at interviews so I just want to be able to go in feeling fairly calm and be able to think through my answers and experience - and ideally stop myself cramming in information tonight which is my usual prep (and doesn’t work). So, any tips for staying calm both tonight and tomorrow morning? Interview is at 10am so fairly early...

I take a notebook with me, with my organised thoughts eg a page for experience, a page for strengths, a page for achievements, a page for recent legislation changes. I say to the interviewers “hope you dont mind that I’ve prepared and written down some notes”. And because I’ve got everything written down in case of emergency, I don’t usually need to use it!

Oh and a page of examples as they often ask “give me an example of where you have dealt with xx issue”. Usually based on the skills required in the person spec.

Rest if possible tonight. You are all prepared so try and relax. You have obviously impressed them already otherwise they would not have offered you an interview.

Best tip I can give is to ensure you eat before your interview. I need to or I turn into a jibbering wreck.

Good luck

How did you get on OP?

Nononononono33 · 16/07/2019 17:37

Ah thanks for asking. I thought the interview went very well and I was the most relaxed I’ve been in an interview situation. I definitely made an effort not to cram in a lot of last minute info and relax last night knowing I knew my stuff. (Didn't help me sleep better though). No news yet and I annoyingly forgot to check when they would be letting people know, so just sitting right for now. Thanks for all the advice!

I’m pretty sure no one is waiting for an update but...I got the job! The relaxing-before-interview strategy worked! Thank you for your extremely helpful advice.
