Hi I was carrying my 4 year old on my back with a baby carrier. Called the twin go. But it go stolen. So I need a new carrier. But I'm having trouble finding one that I can use for a 4 year old. I really dont want one with a frame at I want to put it under the buggy when not using it. Any recommendations?

So sorry to hear your other carrier was stolen as well - that's awful :(

Marge2019 · 14/07/2019 17:28

@pomtastic

Thank you. Was really sad. It was called the twin go so you could carry 2 children. I still have one part of it. But there is no way I will be able to get the part that's been stolen back. Would hsbevyk buy a whole new twingo and the hate not popular enough to get a second hand one. Have plenty to check out now though :)

Why does a child need to have SN to be carried aged 4? Maybe child likes to be carried or gets tired or yano....just because? Judgemental folk everywhere. If you haven't got a decent, non judgemental answer, scroll on by. How irritating.
You carry your 4yo OP, in whatever way you want.
I personally like Tulas.

Another vote for Integra... My favourite carrier as it's so comfortable!

I have a Beco Toddler and it's enormous, they keep popping up relatively cheap on ebay at the moment (it's decided that since I bought one it'll give me billions of notifications about them). Could definitely fit a four year old in, depending on their size.

My little one is nearly three and I'm getting the judgy comments already when people see him on my back - they wouldn't say anything about seeing a preschooler being driven in a car, well, I don't have one of those but still have to get around somehow!

Manduca is brilliant. I couldn't babywear past age two. But I had a manduca which I loved.

OP, is it bike-friendly wear you live? Have you considered travelling around by box bike or tricycle with a back seat (I have an old Trikidoo). It's great!
4 is a tough age. They're way past buggies. But those little legs still get so tired. My DD could walk the earth and back again at age 4. Whereas DS2 (5) doesn't have that stamina. He gets tired. Kids vary.

Preschool tula is very comfy. Carried ds2 until he was 5 in it!

^^ yup, this.

If you look at the Slings and Things website they've got quite a few to hire, you could try some out. We've got a Lillebaby Carry-on but it barely covers my 4yo bum now so get a bigger one than that!

OddestSock · 15/07/2019 18:36

I used a wompat when my daughter was 4 (I stopped wearing her at 3, but then she had chickenpox and I needed to somehow get my eldest to school so my then 4 year old went on my back). I barely felt her weight

Marge2019 · 15/07/2019 19:33

I was thinking most of the people judging probably drive. Or do not realise how easy it is to use a carrier. He wont be in it all the time but summer is here means day trips and lots of walking.

Id be putting him in the buggy & carrying the smaller one!

But if you can carry him in a sling & want to then you can just ignore the judgey comments

I drive, but I also walk a lot (normally anyway, I’m currently barely able to hobble around the house as my knee is bad. I’d struggle to carry a newborn right now let alone a 4yo). If your DS isn’t up to doing the distances you need done then you have to find an alternative don’t you 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lots of good suggestions, I know Jack shit about carriers for older kids so no ‘vite’ From me except to say ‘the wompat’ sounds cute 😁

I wish something very nasty upon the cretin that stole your twin go!

OneFlewOverTheMumsNest · 15/07/2019 20:17

The Manduca is brilliant, used it with both of my children until around 3yo. What I would say is at that end of the age range, although I still felt well supported in the back etc, I think it was too narrow across their bum/hips so their legs dangled too much and it dug in their chubby thighs by then so may not be great for your son unless he’s a small 4.

Wishing all bad things on those that stole your other carrier. That’s awful.
