Have I packed too many bags?

Hi all,
I’m going away with my parents and brother for 4 days, then parting ways with them and going to visit some very dear relatives for a further 3 days.
I have packed:
A cabin suitcase full of clothes, pyjamas and a makeup bag full of coffee sachets.
A cabin suitcase with a large teddy (I have anxiety and the teddy calms me when I’m stressed) and a throw because I get cold.
A rucksack with my sewing kit and another teddy, ( this also calms me when I’m anxious, I’ve had it since I was 3)
One of those huge material primark bags that you get if you buy lots containing a carrier bag full of wool and crochet hooks, with more wool in Wool Warehouse organza bags inside the carrier, a pair of scissors to cut the wool, the large bag also contains two large shopper handbags full of stuff too. The smaller handbag contains:. A cardigan and my housecoat. The larger handbag contains: sunglasses, a hot water bottle and a crossword book. I also have a red reusable shopping carrier containing makeup bags, makeup brushes, nail products, skincare and eyeshadow palettes, and a contour kit. I’ve also got to put in another nightie and more pyjama trousers.
Have I packed too much?

I’ve also just put a radio in the large handbag.

What's a cabin suitcase? Never heard of that before!

It's a week I guess so as long as you can carry it all fine.

Mrsjayy · 14/07/2019 12:40

Yes you have packed too much are you giving the wool to somebody I think you need to make a list it looks like you have panic packed that is a hell of a lot of bags to humph about

Are you flying? if it’s all hand luggage you won’t be allowed to take it all on, you’ll have to pay for it to go in the hold - and most airlines say 1 case per passenger.

SellFridges · 14/07/2019 12:42

You might not have packed too much but you’ve certainly packed randomly.

Do you really think you will get through so much wool and make up in a week? Do they not have coffee where you are going?

Tweetingmagpie · 14/07/2019 12:42

Not really, you’re going away for 7 days and have two tiny suitcases a rucksack and a big shopping bag, and most of that is wool and teddies Grin

Tweetingmagpie · 14/07/2019 12:43

I couldn’t be arsed with all the different bags, just get a big suitcase!

Violetroselily · 14/07/2019 12:44

Sounds like far too many bags for a start. Do you not have one large suitcase instead of two cabin sized?

Have you counted how many outfits you a totally have? Does it correspond to the number of days younger away?

Are you going to actually use the sewing and crochet bits? And do a crossword book?

Do you really need a throw, a hot water bottle and your house coat??

NC4Now · 14/07/2019 12:44

What’s your mode of transport?

user1474894224 · 14/07/2019 12:45

Yes. Way too much. Are you in a car or flying? If flying you need one hold suitcase and 1 piece of hand luggage. In a car for a week try to limited yourself to the same. Otherwise where will you put it all at the destination? Surely 1 teddy is enough? 1 piece of knitting or crocheting....etc

YahBasic · 14/07/2019 12:46

If you are staying with family, just ask to borrow a throw and hot water bottle. Do you really need a sewing kit and all that wool?

If you are away for 7 days, how many times will you be doing your nails and make up?

You could easily strip that back to 2-3 bags max.

If you’re travelling in your own car with no one else/their luggage, then fine. You’d struggle on public transport or if other people & luggage will be in the car.

YahBasic · 14/07/2019 12:47

Get rid of the radio & download an app on your phone if you really don’t think where you are staying will have a radio.

BiscuitDrama · 14/07/2019 12:47

For a start I’d ditch the throw and housecoat. Put an extra jumper on instead.

BiscuitDrama · 14/07/2019 12:48

Oh cabin suitcase is size to go in aircraft cabin!

QOD · 14/07/2019 12:48

8 pairs knickers
2 bras plus the one you’re wearing
3 bottoms/trews/shorts
6 tops
Maybe a dress or 2
Teddy and blanky
Nightie
1 knitting 🧶 item
1 small selection of make up
1 comb
1 small bag of coffee

WheresTheEvidence · 14/07/2019 12:49

Yes you have. Limit yourself to 1 of your teddies, and leave the blanket.

Herocomplex · 14/07/2019 12:52

Will there be space for your belongings when you get there? If there is and you can manage all your bags easily in your transport then take what you like and have a great time!

SwedishEdith · 14/07/2019 12:52

Flying - most would go in the hold (scissors etc).
Driving - take what you like.
Public transport - one suit case (splitting to avoid mn making a stupid automated link)better than two.

shinynewapple · 14/07/2019 12:55

How are you travelling? Assume you aren't flying- if so then this baggage arrangement won't fit with airline regs. If you are going by car then smaller bags may be easier to fit in boot / back seat but if u are on public transport then replacing the several small bags with large wheely case would be easier.

What is expected temperature where you are going ?

purplecorkheart · 14/07/2019 12:56

How are you travelling and where ar2 you staying? Could you bring the smaller of the two teddies. Do you really need all the wool etc ? I would pare this down. Forget about the radio. Bring a large scarf instead of a blanket.

Todaythiscouldbe · 14/07/2019 12:56

On the face of it you have packed a lot of random things, however, if you suffer from anxiety I imagine you feel you 'need' most of them.
How large is the teddy if you can only fit that and a throw in a cabin sized case? Can you squeeze the other teddy and sewing kit in with it? I am presuming sewing is something you do to alleviate stress?
You will probably feel much calmer if you have less 'stuff' with you. I'm a terrible over packer, it's taken years to work out a system

rookiemere · 14/07/2019 12:56

Are you traveling in anyone elses car ? if so then yes far too much.

purplecorkheart · 14/07/2019 12:58

Also pare down your makeup. You don't need to bring all your makeup. Do you need your whole sewing kit?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/07/2019 13:03

Agree with PPs -how you are travelling is very relevant!
Please can you update OP?

Greenolivesorblackolives · 14/07/2019 13:05

How are you going to pull/carry/move it all?
