Help me get away with this!

I was just cleaning the mantelpiece and knocked off one of DHs beloved Royal Doulton figurines. It hit the fireplace and broke clean in half Blush

He's asleep upstairs (works nights). 3yo DD witnessed the whole thing!

Have managed to stick it back together, but the glue is only PVA and I'm scared to touch it. I'm thinking put it back where it was for now and try and get a new one off eBay or similar.

I can pull this off, right?

@Rivkka

Initially read bugle as bulge and wondered what sort of NSFW ornaments you have in your house Grin

Don't offer him to DH though, he'd probably take it!

@MacInTheBox absolutely!!! Poor you but also there's something very endearing about it also.

Honestly just tell him. I couldn’t be arsed trying to hide the fact and then replace in secret. Way too much effort.

Mi mil loves the ugly things. I just hope we don't inherit any of them. They are vile.

MayFayner · 15/07/2019 00:18

Hmm. I would come clean and then I’d probably take my time “sourcing” the replacement.

Like a long time.

ALittleBitAlexis · 15/07/2019 00:28

Oh no, that thing looks cursed. You’re a good wife for having them on display! Hope he wasn’t too upset, if you did decide to come clean Grin

NomDeQwerty · 15/07/2019 00:31

That looks very precious OP. Far too precious to be left so vulnerably on a mantelpiece. Might I suggest a display cabinet? IKEA have them. Hmm...but they're made of glass and you have a 3 year old. What to do...? Maybe a small lockable shed would be the best place for a glass display cabinet.

Mumsymumphy · 15/07/2019 00:33

Jeez it looks like a prop from a horror film. Does its eyes move of their accord?! Is it ever in a different place in the morning?! It's as creepy as hell.

There's a couple on ebay at the moment from £20 - £50.

Bookworm4 · 15/07/2019 00:45

What an odd thing for a man to collect, I thought this was strictly Hyacinth Bucket territory 🙄

Quick update:

I ended up telling him. He was fine with it. Said he would be more upset if it had been the larger one. I've promised to replace it when I can - he reckons I've missed a vocation as I've managed to glue it back together so well. You can hardly see the crack Grin

He used it as a learning opportunity with DD and we had a conversation about telling the truth, etc.

It is the stuff of nightmares though. I used to be petrified of clowns when I was younger too. I always try not to look at them or pay them any attention! I definitely think we should put Large Jester into a box somewhere so I don't have to look at him for safe keeping!

Oh my word that's ugly! And I bet it looks worse in the larger size! 😬

Are you knew around these parts? Nice username Wink

OP, your DH is lucky that only one has met a tragic end. I think boxed safely in the attic is the way to go for those things.
