Been listening to him on YouTube and I think he speaks a lot of truth

I think it’s worth listen to his podcasts and you tube channel to find out what he is saying exactly . Then evaluate his media coverage from a position of accuracy.

Another way to asses him is to check out his reading recommendations on his website. When I last looked, the books he was recommending amongst others were,

Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning (How could the Holocaust happen and how it could happen again)

The house of god by Samuel Shem ( An American ‘ this is going to hurt’)

Plus Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and Orwell.

I prefer dealing with transcripts, rather than listening to someone so verbose and hand-wavey.

Helps distinguish the content from the mere presentation.

In fact I do this generally for people described as "charismatic" or "you had to be there".

Jordan Peterson needs to get in the bin.

TheBigBallOfOil · 16/07/2019 17:10

On the basis of what I’ve read here he sounds completely batshit crazy. As do some of those who approve of him. Dresses well? Okaaaaay.....

Patroclus · 16/07/2019 19:23

Here he is on his beef diet. Very stable.

Fucking 'triggered'? thats the best you can come up with? why even bother?

Pathetic attempt.

Patroclus · 16/07/2019 19:30

What do you suppose Orwell (who Kermit never, ever mentions was a socialist) would make of angry angry Jordan, Anewchicken?

He hasnt even bothered to read those himself you know?

Annasgirl · 16/07/2019 19:35

A woman who admires Jordan Peterson is like a black man who admires the Klan.

TheBigBallOfOil · 16/07/2019 19:59

Ew. That all beef diet ain’t doing much for his looks. Scary

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2019 20:33

Something of the night about him.

Anewchicken · 16/07/2019 21:30

What any discussion about Peterson illustrates is the rapid knee jerk responses of some, on social media.

I think it’s worth hearing his arguments however uncomfortable, to see with a different perspective .

pointythings · 16/07/2019 21:36

chicken the mistake you are making here is the same one often made in the media - that where there are two opposing views, they must be presented as having equal value and validity.

Even if one of the two is batshit crazy.

It's perfectly OK to look at different viewpoints. It is unwise to give them uncritical equivalency. Not all ideas are created equal - Darwin and Lamarque are a good example.

Anewchicken · 16/07/2019 21:44

@pointythings Thank you for illustrating my first point.

SeaEagleFeather · 16/07/2019 21:53

Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson.

Jordan is impossible to pin down and he uses tactics.

There is a deep fundamental dishonesty in Jordan's work somewhere. I came to it wanting to like him and had to step away as there's something creepy about the way he tries to intellectually browbeat people. He's in it to WIN somehow, not to really communicate with another human being.

pointythings · 16/07/2019 22:08

Well, chicken, I've read Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and Orwell, and I don't think they say what Jordan Peterson thinks they say...

Frankly, his transcript of the interaction with that 4 year old - not just the poking but the interactions around lunch and the forced feeding - was enough for me - anyone able to justify behaving like that to a small child is deserving of scorn.

sawdustformypony · 27/08/2019 19:55

All I know about this guy is that his name is like the beacons of Gondor and very soon Millies will flock to this thread to argue with anyone who dares to agree with what he says.

Rachelover40 · 27/08/2019 20:31

Don't know who he is, will google.

Rachelover40 · 27/08/2019 21:16

I'm now feeling a bit stupid after saying I don't know who he is. The name was vaguely familiar but I couldn't place him.

I just looked on my son's FB and he was talking about Jordan Petersen with another guy, there's a link to it which I could listen to if I wanted. Now I remember being talked to about the man a while back. Blush

Honestly, what am I like.

He is a man with some very interesting takes on several issues.
