Strike action

Hi all

So the staff at Heathrow are going on strike, on the day we return from holiday. Not arguing rights to strike, everyone is able to.

So not to worry myself far too much, has anyone travelled back when there has been a strike, how was it? Would it matter who you were flying back with. Does anyone know if the baggage handlers are striking too.

Basically just asking for experiences

This might affect us as we'll be flying out on one of those days. I read earlier security, customer service and engineers are among those affected, which is certainly going to have an impact.

I travelled from Tunisia many years ago and for some reason everything was delayed. I remember there being no food or toilet paper available at the airport. Not sure if it's typical, but might be worth planning for.

I flew into France when strike action was occurring.

As with all strike action, it was pretty much more efficient than the normal experience

I don't mind the no food and stuff, as it's just me and dp travelling back. It's just the baggage claim that will worry me.

If it's only you and your DH, and you're only going for a short break could you try and get by with just hand luggage? At least it's one less thing to worry about.

I've managed to make it work for a week long holiday, and it meant buying all our toiletries etc at our destination, plus wearing a lot of extra clothes on us, and being frugal in only taking absolute essentials, but it was do-able. And actually quite liberating travelling lite!

Just checked dates - shit, I'm flying from LHR in the middle of it. With kids and no other adult. Hope they manage to settle the dispute, I suppose.
