The Boswell riddle

A while ago someone posted a riddle about someone called Boswell (I think that was the name)

It popped into my head today. Did the riddle ever get solved?

OP posts:
RedForShort · 11/07/2019 22:18

Oh, I'd forgotten about that. No, don't think it was. Some guff about not being about say what it means when you know.

BedraggledBlitz · 11/07/2019 22:22

Oh God. Something about post office steps? I didnt get it at all.

SherlockHolmes · 11/07/2019 22:23

Yes I wondered whatever happened to that thread too.

GoFiguire · 11/07/2019 22:23

Yes it did.

Ohyesiam · 11/07/2019 22:24

Vaguely remember. Wasn’t it a wind up?

FlashingLights101 · 11/07/2019 22:25

GoFiguire what was the answer?

GoFiguire · 11/07/2019 22:26

Water feature

buttertoasty · 11/07/2019 22:28

I remember something about Boswelland Forshort?

OP posts:
WaitingInTheBushesOfLove · 11/07/2019 22:28

I think many posters had a few theories but i am not sure the OP ever came back to confirm an answer. There were like 3 threads about it i think.

RedForShort · 11/07/2019 22:31

"There once was a man called Boswell, and he walked up the post office steps."

Absolutely ridiculous I'd forgotten it. It's where my 'ForShort' came from.

Some of the answers where very convoluted and hilarious for what I recall.

Jambalaya76 · 11/07/2019 22:34

And they called him Bos for short, or something like that

InsertFunnyUsername · 11/07/2019 22:35

Complete nonsense if i remember rightly.

DontPanic42 · 11/07/2019 22:35

Nooooooooo! I had forgotten about this and now you have reminded me and it's going to drive me mad again!!

RedForShort · 11/07/2019 22:36

Ok. Missed a bit there:

"There once was a man called Boswell. For short they called him Bos, and he walked up the post office steps."

DickZillaofTheVilla · 11/07/2019 22:36

It was definitely a windup I think. Made no sense whatsoever and the ‘theories’ were really grasping Hmm

BuggerOffBoswell · 11/07/2019 22:39

Noooooo

It’s as bad as The Game

OytheBumbler · 11/07/2019 22:41

Damn you Buggeroffboswell

Lovelylugs · 11/07/2019 22:43

My uncle told me this riddle when I was small.
The answer is a bit disappointing really.
His name is Boswell and the supposedly shortened version of his name is 'Bosandhewalkedupthepostofficesteps' That's supposed to be the joke. That his nickname is longer than his actual name.
Annoying and not funny. I think that's why Op didn't share the answer in the end.

DontCallMeShitley · 11/07/2019 22:52

The entire thread was a waste of time with no actual answer.

Veronicat · 11/07/2019 22:55

Now I've just lost The Game damn you bugger

BobTheFishermansWife · 11/07/2019 22:58

That's a stupid riddle, it makes no sense...

What's The Game?

ToEarlyForDecorations · 11/07/2019 23:05

Lovely that it went on for page after page. Yep, I reckon it was a wind up too.

Lots of things are funny when you are drunk. Then make sense when you are sober.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 11/07/2019 23:05

Then make NO sense when you are sober.

3luckystars · 11/07/2019 23:09

Yes she figure it out but wouldn't tell us.

I hope she was banned.

FenellaMaxwell · 11/07/2019 23:11

FFS @BuggerOffBoswell - you had to mention the Game!!!!
