Hi all,

I’ve heard people going away every school halfterm! (Weekends and longer) is this the norm?

How often do you go away during the year? Including weekends?

Every half term and some weekends but we are from another EU country so it is more going home from home rather than on holiday as we do not have to spend money on accomodation, just travel which is often cheaper than a train to anywhere in the UK (except for the cost to the planet of course). Proper holiday two weeks a year.

We are lucky that 2 of our trips were paid for by other people. The others were all either cheap to start with and/or booked well in advance & taken out of season (although I have not & would not take our DC out of school for a holiday).

Time wise, DH works contracts, so e.g. this year has a 6-week break that coincides with school holidays. So no annual leave as such. I am on a zero hours contract & my employers know I can mainly work school hours/weekends, so I can turn down any shifts I am not available for. This works well with DH's contracts.

About two-three times a year when they were little - once for our family holiday and once or twice to visit relatives.
These days once a year as they are teens and often away doing other stuff with school during holidays.

We've got 7 this year (two long haul 9+ hours); three visiting family and two weddings.

Next year planning on one UK based holiday plus the family visits

Now they are older the 3dc and I tend to go away every school holidays. I work term time and want to make the most of the breaks!
Not always for full weeks but certainly 3 nights minimum. Occasionally to family but more often just to new cities or city breaks, seaside cottages etc.
Dp comes with us for 2 weeks in the summer, one week over Christmas and then a week at Easter.

Once a year usually, though we would do weekend visits to grandparents in the UK two or thee times a year.

One abroad holiday a year in summer hols, since the youngest was 5. We didn't last year as we moved house, but we are this year. That is usually about 9 days, but this year we're doing two weeks as MIL gifted us some money.

One UK holiday park for 3 or 4 nights at Easter. Haven type rather than Butlins or CP.

Possibly one trip to MIL (stay with her - not actually a holiday!) or DM (stay at hotel, more like a holiday as it has a pool) at Christmas

I have one holiday by myself a year - this is usually 4 days at a sewing retreat in Wales, but this year I'm going abroad for the weekend with pals.
DH doesn't. He could if he wanted to.

At least 4. Our holidays are sacred to our family life.
