I'm trying to be vague so as not to be outing, but I sold a large antique item on gumtree . In the listing it is clearly stated that the item is almost 60 years old and is not in perfect condition but is perfectly useable and I have been using it myself. I took a lot of photos.
I agreed to take payment by payment plan through PayPal and I lowered the cost of the item by £50 for the buyer which I had no problem with. They then decided they would rather pay by bank transfer which was also fine by me. Whilst the item was still in my care, there was a slight accident which caused a small superficial stain to it, I took photos, explained to the buyer and offered to either refund them fully or lower the price by another £50 . They chose to continue with the purchase with the reduction. I also gave them free extras alongside what had been advertised, which again I was happy to do.
They arranged a specialist courier who is well respected on Facebook groups for selling these things. The courier told me when he collected that the buyer is well known for trying to claim their money back - lo and behold, the buyer has now contacted me saying the condition of the item isnt as they expected and they want their money back. They paid by bank transfer, is there any way that they are going to be able to claim the money back from my account? It's a lot of money for me to lose!
