Nice villages outside Exeter

We are thinking of relocating to Exeter area and looking for small villages with a primary school and at least a pub. It needs to have reasonable links to Exeter so within 10mles.

Not asking for much I know.
TIA

Have a search - I seem to remember a similar thread a couple of months ago.

Crediton and Topsham featured. Obviously it depends on your budget.

Bickleigh? I think it fits all your criteria. Has both pub and primary. The primary is C of E so just be sure you're happy about that. It's about 15 to 20 minutes from Exeter

Ide, Broadclyst (or any of the small villages between Exeter and Cullompton along the bus route), ditto Half Moon and other villags along the route to Crediton (which is a market town rather than a village), Kenn (though I don't think there are public transport links from Kenn), or any of the villages down either side of the estuary (Lympstone, Starcross) served by the train.

When you say "reasonable links" do you mean roads for driving or public transport?

Feniton.

Bradninch. It's a Duchy town, the size of a large village, with an outstanding primary school, 2 pubs, a thriving community and good public transport links to Exeter.

Ottery St Mary. Small town rather than village but it's great. Good schools, plenty if housing, way into Exeter along the A30.

Otherwise, somewhere along the train line from Exmouth. Maybe Lympstone?

MaidofKent78 · 10/07/2019 07:49

*plenty of housing, easy to get into Exeter

I grew up in and still live in Topsham and it really is such a nice place to live! I lived in the Cullompton/Tiverton area for a while and tbh I would avoid it, there are much nicer places (it’s over 10 miles away from Exeter too). Good luck!

Thanks all. Are there any villages affected by the airport?
Good car links ideally but a regular bus route would be amazing as the kids get older. I’m presuming those areas in the coast are just too busy and touristy in the summer months?
