Free yoga apps?

abitoflight · 09/07/2019 16:56

Can anyone recommend a free yoga app please? Or one that has good free content for a beginner to yoga with poor balance?
No weight to lose, just to improve balance and strength rather than relaxation
Thank you

Not sure about app but Yoga with Adrienne is excellent on YouTube

MarshaBradyo · 09/07/2019 16:58

Adriene rather

Sooverthemill · 09/07/2019 16:59

YouTube. I use yogawithadriene almost every day . I also subscribe to her app but most often watch the videos via YouTube . She has yoga for beginners and all sorts. I'm doing another one of her 30 days of yoga.

Yoga with Adriene is indeed brilliant. I did her 15 minute wake up yoga the other day and whizzed round all day full of energy. (Just realised that means I should probably do it again! Grin)

I know everyone recommends Adriene but I find her really irritating. Am not sure about free apps but I find a combination of a yoga book (I use Iyengars Light on Yoga- it has a week by week plan that lasts about 6 years!) and YouTube tutorials on specific poses works well, although I do go to classes as well so it might not work for a complete beginner.

Down dog is a good app for your phone. It has loads of different types of practices and you can set the length of the practice, length of savasana, change the music, change the voice. It's actually a video for you to follow along. I love it.

Stravapalava · 09/07/2019 17:06

You can also set the level on Down Dog - there's beginner 1, beginner 2, intermediate 1, intermediate 2 and advanced. They change the routine every couple of days, so it's always different.

BlueSkiesLies · 09/07/2019 17:41

Oooh I'll check out Down Dog as I didn't get on with YWA

Sooverthemill · 09/07/2019 20:37

mamapants sometimes she irritates the hell out of me and I shout at her but I found her videos the best on YouTube. I can't get to a class and have used YWA now almost every single day since October 2015. she is sometimes annoying but she does teach well. I like that I can have it on my tv or phone or laptop too as it's just YouTube. When I first started I watched Erica vetra who was also good but liked the structure of the Calendar that Adrienne posts.

I also like Yoga with Adriene. She has a few 30 day programmes, which are helpful for giving you a bit of everything. Five Parks (also on YouTube) is also good, but more challenging.

I didn't get any notifications for replies hence late reply
I'll look at these Smile

*ooh thanks for that. I've subscribed to five parks

mamapants · 10/07/2019 22:28

Thanks soover I did think I was the only person in the world who didn't love her.

Sooverthemill · 11/07/2019 19:55

mamapants I have a lovehate relationship with her, she's transformed my body ( arthritis, shoulder and hip pain) but I wish she wouldn't tell us her' views on life.
