Trying to find some books for my nearly 7 year old to read over the summer. He’s a fairly advanced reader but is a bit lazy.

What do your kids like to read?

My ds is 7 but a free reader at school and also lazy. He likes to choose comics mainly but is reading the captain underpants books and horrible histories books.

Mainly he likes books on his interests rather than novels.

DelurkingAJ · 09/07/2019 17:16

Non fiction here. And Jeremy Strong.

MotherofaCat · 09/07/2019 17:20

My nephew likes David Walliams and Charlie Fry books.

xxxCheshireMumxxX · 09/07/2019 17:24

David Walliams & Edith Blyton :)

twirlypoo · 09/07/2019 17:34

Dog man, captain underpants, Tom Gates, 13 story treehouse, Jeremy strong, Roald Dahl (the twits, Charlie chocolate factory and Matilda were particular faves)

We get the beano delivered each week as well which Ds loves as he feels grown up getting his own post.

PotolBabu · 09/07/2019 17:37

The Jack Stalwart series.
David Walliams
He’s been reading the Five Find Outers as well.

The 13 storey treehouse and Diary of a Wimpey Kid books are good as they have lots of illustrations, diagrams etc - I have a similar boy, great reader but can't be arsed if a book is pages of endless text but he read and re-read these with joy.

Ooh I’ve just found this actually in case it’s any use - it’s the year 3 reading list for next year. Might be good for ideas?

Also got a 7 year old who reads well but prefers being read to. In addition to those mentioned, books he likes to read alone are- Dirty Bertie, The Bad Guys series and Bear and Rabbit books.

ConstanzaAndSalieri · 09/07/2019 19:15

My seven year old adores Beast Quest. Little in the form of interest from my point of view but has re-instilled a love of reading.

Kungfupanda67 · 09/07/2019 19:36

Thanks everyone for your suggestions :) I’ll have a library hunt - it’s so frustrating when in terms of reading ability he could read anything, and I really want him to love books but he’s so bloody lazy!

He loves the bad guys series (mainly because it’s only got about 4 words on each page I think!), we’ve tried Harry Potter but he won’t read it on his own, think he feels overwhelmed by all the pages. Haven’t tried beast quest, I’ve been trying to avoid it to be honest but he probably would like them - I’ll have a look at Tom gates and the older David walliams ones too.
