How do I find a web designer who will make me a website that doesn't look like everyone else's?

I've been looking for ages and everyone just does the same old stripey/blocky table based stuff. I don't want my website to look just like everyone else's.

I also work in an industry that doesn't lend itself well to photos and the few photos that work to some degree have been used by everyone else 100 times over. So I need something that is visually striking without using photos (custom artwork would be great!).

Where do I find someone who might be able to help with something like this?

Square Space has some really different aesthetic designs! Pretty easy editing format too.

Also - there is a website called Unsplash with free hi res photos, I use them for fills in web mail outs etc, great for filling blocks that don't require content but something visual!

Thanks roothby but I was kind of hoping for a unique solution. I don't want to use a "slot it in" system.

A good web designer will make the website their client wants.

Asking for recommendations on LinkedIn etc is useful and be clear about what you do (and don’t!) want!

Yeah you're probably better hiring someone professional then! I used Wordpress for my works website and there are thousands of themes and templates to chose from, you can really strip them back and customise to your own preferences. All the best with it, it's a total headache at times doing your own!

traineepro · 09/07/2019 15:58

Thanks Roothyb! I think making my own would be better if I had unique photos but I don't really want to use photos from a bank of photos. I really want something completely unique. No idea how to find someone that does that these days though!

I'm already friends with a few on LinkedIn though Jacques and I don't want to offend them. I also don't want to say in public that I don't want this striped/blocky formula since everyone else has it and it might be taken as criticism.

I can recommend some one in Newcastle if you’re based in the north east.

Problem is that that style is currently the fashion and if you deviate from it too much people will find the website a bit off in some way even if they can't put their finger on what.

I would be careful with this especially with a text driven website

I'm in Scotland FamilyOhNo but I'd be interested in her details if you have them?

Her or his details I should say....

Web design structures tend to fit a certain format because that's what works best and what site visitors find easy to use. Throwing people when they land on your site with an abstract layout might increase drop offs
