Please tell me this isn't a cockroach. I just spotted it walking across my floor. 😱

Not sure you can tell from that picture. If it's any consolation I caught a cockroach in our house about 6 months ago and have never seen another one. We have plenty of silverfish though.

Hawkmoth · 08/07/2019 23:40

Can you do measurements and a top view?

userxx · 08/07/2019 23:44

So there won't be a tribe of them. Still makes me itch! I didn't even know you could get them in the uk, I associate them with Tenerife! It definitely wasn't a silverfish, it was more chunky like a cockroach.

It looks like a shield bug.

MitMopse · 08/07/2019 23:50

Hello, hard to see but looks like a shield bug of some kind. Have a google! If so they are harmless to people / household.

Ilovelala · 08/07/2019 23:51

First instinct was cockroach but the picture is not very good and makes it hard to really identify. If you look for German cockroach on Google and decide if it's the same ?

Normal advice is they are very hard to get rid of and you need to call a company in and also that if you have seen one there's sure to be more around but like the PP I found one in my front room blitzed my whole house like a woman possessed and never saw another again and I've been on my hands and knees in the middle of the night with a torch making sure there's nothing around nearly every day since.

MrsEricBana · 08/07/2019 23:53

I'd put my money on shield bug. Totally harmless. You don't need rentokil just yet!

Pushmepullyou · 08/07/2019 23:54

It’s a shield bug.

ReapersHowler · 08/07/2019 23:56

The body shape and legs say shield bug too leggy to be a cockroach imo

userxx · 08/07/2019 23:58

No, it wasn't a German cockroach. I'm hoping for a shield bug, they sound less menacing.

Thanks everyone, you've put my mind at rest. I've recently got a new house plant, could that have attracted it in?

Hawkmoth · 09/07/2019 00:21

I don't think it's a shield bug. Some kind of beetle. If its massive it's a diving beetle, if not just any one of several. Don't think a cockroach.

FictionalCharacter · 09/07/2019 00:24

From the shape, it's definitely a shield bug. Harmless and quite cute!

RockinHippy · 09/07/2019 01:04

It's really hard to tell from the photos, but there's a lot it could be. May Beetle, aka June Beetle, which are in season atm, sprung to mind first. But there's lots it could've that aren't cockroaches
