I read this book around 15-20 years ago but I think I mislaid it shortly afterwards and can't remember what it is.
It centres around a group of friends throughout their child bearing years. I think it was set in London. The main character had no interest in having children. One couple were pregnant with their first child and she had a miscarriage when she was painting the nursery. That room was then painted orange (I don't know why that's the main thing I remember from this book). Another couple had twins and, I believe, both parents died when the children were still young. I think that the woman who didn't want children ended up becoming the guardian of the twins.
I thought it might have been Babyville by Jane Green but from reading the back cover I'm not sure it was. Does anyone have any clue what I'm talking about?
