What is this? Skin related

I have developed two large pigmentation spots on either side of my neck in the same place (see picture which has a filter to make it more obvious). They are about 4-5 cm in diameter. The skin in that area also seems thicker and is prone to proper spots (angry red ones) which I don't get anywhere else. I work in a school and one of the kids thought I had love bites Confused
Google says it could be Acanthosis nigricans although it doesn't seem as dark or in the same pattern as that.
I'm 40, fair skinned and not overweight. I eat a relatively good diet and exercise 3 x per week. I'm fine in myself generally although I have noticed a significant increase in facial hair (yay!) and an increase in migraines (although still only 1-2 per month).
I have made an appointment with my GP but thought I'd see if anyone else had anything like this? Thanks

Skin can do funny things! Let us know what GP said.

The increase in facial hair made me think of polycystic ovary syndrome.

High blood insulin levels

When a person has chronically high insulin levels, they can experience areas of hyperpigmentation on the neck, especially on the back of the neck. This occurrence is common in women who have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
