I've lost myself a little lately and my self esteem is low. I live in a country with no family and few friends. I'd like to make new friends and keep myself occupied and think a hobby would help. Only problem is I don't know what I want to do! Any suggestions?

New hobbies I took up that got me chatting to people were sewing classes and taking on an allotment. Both great for chatting to strangers but also good fun.

Are you sporty - park run, swimming club, exercise classes
Are you crafty - knitting, sewing, crochet classes/groups
Would you like mindfulness activities - yoga, tai chi, meditation groups
Do you like reading/writing - book club, creative writing course
Do you like history - evening class, volunteering at a museum, re-enactment group
Do you like art - painting/drawing/sketching groups, brush lettering class
Do you like DIY - upholstery course, NVQ in plumbing/plastering/brickwork

I learned how to crochet from you tube. Make lots of things now. I’m not great at it but it keeps me busy and I enjoy seeing the finished project. (Although sometimes I rip it down and start again)

Dance class? I go to belly dancing classes which I absolutely love and are great for making new friends

I joined a roller derby fundamentals programme. Great fun, good exercise and made lots of interesting friends.

Photography. Join a photographic society and one (or a few) of the many groups on facebook and take part in their regular meet-ups. It doesn't matter where you are - if you have a camera on you you can indulge in your hobby at your leisure.
